The ending of the critically acclaimed 'Moon Knight', along with the release of 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness', has now made way for another Marvel Studios project to premiere. 'Ms Marvel' is set to be the next installment and addition to the franchise. The upcoming Disney Plus series stars Iman Vellani as Ms Marvel, a Pakistani-American Jersey City high school student also known as Kamala Khan. The young heroine made her entry into the comic book world when she appeared in an issue of Captain Marvel back in 2013. Kamala Khan is the first Muslim character in Marvel Comics history.

The latest installment of MCU will introduce not only Ms Marvel but also other new heroes. While we recently got the Scarlet Scarab in 'Moon Knight', the Red Dagger is set to appear in 'Ms Marvel'. In the trailer for 'Ms Marvel', we get our first glimpse of the live-action MCU version of the Pakistani crime fighter. He stands in front of Kamala Khan with his trademark crimson red bandana-style face mask and a dagger in his right hand while standing in a strange gloomy hallway.

With Marvel close to finalizing actress for role of 'Ms Marvel', here's a look at the teen superhero's story

Who is Red Dagger?

For those unfamiliar with the comics, Red Dagger's real name is Kareem and he was created by G Willow Wilson and Mirka Andolfo in 2018. He is a masked vigilante who has close ties to Kamala’s family. Kareem's mother and Kamala Khan's maternal aunt went to school together. While studying for his university entrance exams, Kareem lived with Kamala's grandmother in Karachi. Kareem is a self-taught Super Hero who became an expert marksman by watching online videos. His signature weapons are several daggers that he wears on a utility belt.

He spends his days studying and his nights protecting the people of Pakistan. He eventually traveled to Jersey City on an exchange program with Kamala’s school and stayed with her and her family. He was introduced during a rough period in Kamala's superhero career, immediately after the notorious Second Superhuman Civil War event. Red Dagger wears a scarf and mask to protect his secret identity while taking down villains with a set of red throwing knives. While in Pakistan, Kamala hears the stories of Red Dagger's actions and is impressed by a powerless hero taking the initiative to do what's right. In the comics, Red Dagger and Ms Marvel not only worked together to defeat enemies but also had romantic feelings toward each other.

Who plays Red Dagger in 'Ms Marvel' ?

In Disney+'s 'Ms Marvel', Red Dagger will be played by actor Aramis Knight. He has appeared in TV series such as ABC's 'Invasion' and 'Boston Legal'. He has also appeared in films such as 'Rendition', 'Crossing Over', and 'Ender’s Game'.

It is not clear yet what would be the story of Red Dagger, as the MCU version of 'Ms Marvel' will have storylines that are completely different from the original comic book version. Red Dagger could be more of a sidekick to Kamala or he could be a mentor who teaches her how to handle her double life and new responsibilities. He could even be an enemy or rival. He could also be a romantic interest as in the comics, Kamala and Kareem are family friends, but their masked superhero personas Ms Marvel and Red Dagger have a very flirtatious relationship. Whether he's an ally, a rival, a mentor, or a potential boyfriend, Red Dagger is set to play a pivotal role in Kamala Khan's on-screen debut.

It also appears, in the trailer, that he has new powers such as heightened abilities related to speed and agility. In another scene, the Pakistani crimefighter stands in front of Kamala Khan who looks very scared. He looks to be in some sort of fighting pose ready to battle whoever he is facing. The two seem to be working as a team ready to fight a common enemy.

The first episode of 'Ms Marvel' is set to release on June 8 on Disney+.
