Taking to the Facebook group Mums Who Clean, users swore by the unlikely cleaning hack, singing praises of the inexpensive and effective method. Magic condiment

“I used ketchup and left it on for 11 hours,” an Aussie mother wrote on the group, sharing photos of her sink covered in ketchup. “Scrubbed and then just rinsed off," she added. Ketchup is apparently a useful cleaning tool owing to the properties of its ingredients. According to Canadian-based cleaning service Scrubbi, the acetic acid in the ketchup reacts with the copper oxide and removes the grime to render it sparkling clean. The condiment can start working its magic in just about 30 minutes after application, and the dirt can be rubbed off with a soft cloth and rinsed well.

Commenters noted how stubborn stains were difficult to get rid of with conventional cleaning products and techniques until they employed the new hack. “Whoever came up with the tomato sauce tap hack, you’re a genius,” one Facebook user gushed. “Have tried everything, and nothing worked like this. No scrubbing, no effort. I’m blown away,” another wrote. Several others nodded in agreement while sharing photos of their transformed taps and sinks. “Thanks to this group I learned the tomato sauce around the tap trick. OMG, it’s amazing mine was terrible. Left it overnight,” another commented on the Mums Who Clean Facebook group page. “I just put it all around the base, left it overnight and rinsed it off, and cleaned as normal. It was perfect," someone else elaborated.

Those who hadn't tried the hack were more than willing to give it a go, noting that they had "no idea" the common condiment could be used for cleaning. “Who knew!” one wrote. “Who thinks of these cleaning ideas? Tomato sauce, I’ll be damned!” another reacted. “Sooo doing this!” a comment read. “I need to try this," someone else added. “OMG, I haven’t heard of this before. I will be giving it a go tomorrow," another stated.

How to make sinks sparkling clean with tomato sauce

To try the ingenious hack, simply apply a generous amount of tomato sauce around and over the areas that need cleaning. The condiment can be left for a couple of hours, or overnight, before gently wiping or scrubbing the area and then rinsing away the scum. The result should be a sparking clean sink that looks brand new, per 7News.
