LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY: Sophia Rosing, a former student at the University of Kentucky, went on a racist rant in which she referred to a Black student as a "n*****" more than 200 times. Sophia's mother, Jill Rosing, is appealing for forgiveness on the grounds that "no one is perfect"  in an attempt to explain her daughter's conduct.

Rosing, 22, has been charged with three counts of fourth-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication in addition to the felony allegation of attacking a police officer by a Fayette County grand jury on Tuesday, February 21. The mother, Jill, has subsequently started a petition, asking for permission for her daughter to finish school, saying that the girl needs help to "pick up where she left off in all the madness and bloodthirst," according to Daily Mail. Rosing's parents, who were seen helping their daughter disguise her face as they bailed her out in 2022, have remained silent about the incident until this point.

In the change.org petition, Jill wrote, "No one is perfect, and no one is above perfection. We all make mistakes and no mistake should cost someone everything. Sophia is very remorseful for what she has done." There were fewer than 100 signatures on the petition to support the former student at the University of Kentucky.

Jill added, "She cannot take back or erase any mistakes made in the past but she can learn from them and ensure that she doesn't make the same mistakes again in the future. She needs support to pick up where she has left off in all this madness and bloodthirst. What is one word compared to someone's entire future?"

"She needs as many signatures as possible to show the board how important it is that she finishes her education at the University of Kentucky, even if it is at a delayed pace. Let's help secure this young aspiring business leader's future. The support does more than you know, thank you so much," Jill concluded.

What did Sophia Rosing's victim say in regard to her mother's plea?

Kylah Spring, Sophia's victim, has commented on Jill's appeal for compassion by calling it "embarrassing," particularly "during Black History Month," according to Daily Mail. She stated, "Put that petition back in the drafts and own up and let your daughter face consequences for her actions. If you can't do the time, don't commit the crime."

"She definitely said a racial slur," Spring added. "And she knew what she meant and she said what she said. Don't get mad because y'all are starting to get corrected and straighten out. For once the justice system is working in the favor of people that look like me, and you mad she got caught, not that she did it."

'Her parents failed her first chance'

Many people have subsequently reacted to Jill's petition, with one tweeting, "She NEEDS to do the time; it might be the best thing to happen to her, as she NEEDS to know that actions do have consequences!!!" Another person wrote, "It wasn't the first time she was videoed being a racist waste of space!"

A third person wrote, "Very interesting. Now the parents of Sophia Rosing have started a petition to give her a second chance??? Are they serious? Her second chance my b**t. In one of her rants, she stated that she has plenty of money because her parents are rich. Her parents failed her first chance."

"No. This is not her first time. And her only regret was for herself. During her "apology" she spoke about how this affected her life, not what she did to Kylah. Where is her remorse? Did she quit drinking?" commented another person.

What is Sophia Rosing charged with?

Sophia's attack on a police officer has a possible 10-year jail term, while the three fourth-degree assault counts each carry a maximum 12-month penalty. At a preliminary hearing in November of 2022, she entered a not-guilty plea while being represented by Fred Peter.

Eli Capilouto, president of the University of Kentucky, stated that Rosing was suspended "on an interim basis" while they looked into the situation, according to DailyMail. They said that she is permanently banned from the school, is no longer a student, and is not qualified to re-enroll as a student.
