Was Mitt Romney sleeping during Joe Biden speech? Senator trolled for low energy: 'Looks like he lost a bet'
President Joe Biden addressed his first joint session of the Congress on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. He received considerable appreciation for his decision and declaration on most crucial subjects like systemic racism, George Floyd, Covid-19 vaccine and the Afghanistan war. However, not everyone seemed impressed by the President's speech and social media users have named Republican Senator Mitt Romney at the top of that list.
In a now-viral screenshot from the live session, the GOP politician and businessman could be spotted napping in the balcony as the president continues to deliver his speech. Romney's reaction to the speech has sparked a barrage of jokes as Twitterati tries to speculate what exactly the senator was thinking or feeling at the moment. Dubbing him a 'very low energy guy', users even prescribed him 'two shots of buttermilk' to boost his enthusiasm.

Twitter users did not hold back on calling out Mitt Romney for falling asleep at such an important political event. Texas GOP leader Ted Cruz was also called out for dozing off during the session. "Ted Cruz is asleep, Mitt Romney looks like he lost a bet, Mitch McConnell is catatonic. This is what happens when your party sucks and the other side is popular," tweeted the Palmer Report.
"This is the most relatable Mitt Romney has ever been," wrote Fox News contributor Mollie Hemingway. Meanwhile, another user dubbed Romney a very 'low energy guy'. One user even prescribed 'two shots of buttermilk' to boost the senator's energy. "Mitt Romney catching (Nap emoji) while holding his phone when he’s supposed to be working is the most relatable thing I’ve seen him do," wrote a certain user.

A few users also pointed out Mitt Romney's unfazed reaction after Biden proposed a fair share of taxes for the wealthy in America. Romney, who is himself a millionaire businessman, was called out for not clapping during the declaration.
"The minute Mitt Romney realized he is going to have to pay his fair share of taxes," a Twitter user shared his unimpressed look. Another user joked, "Biden talks about racial justice, jobs, ... MITT ROMNEY: "I'm sleep" Biden: "Oh, and the rich need to pay more taxes" ROMNEY: WTF??"
