Looks like Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) skipped former president Donald Trump's first post-presidential speech on Sunday, February 28, where he called out all Republican lawmakers who backed his impeachment. McConnell was questioned on Trump's speech on Fox News, to which he nervously laughed and said that he did not watch it. Trump had spoken during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, on February 28, when he said, "get rid of them all," in reference to the GOP congressmen who supported his impeachment, as cheering crowds welcomed Trump's words.

Trump also said, "We want Republican leaders who are loyal to the voters and who will work proudly for the vision that I've laid out." Trump's list of Republican enemies includes Rep Liz Cheney (R-Wy), who serves as the House Republican Conference Chair, as well as McConnell, both of whom said Trump was responsible for the failed insurrection attempt at the Capitol on January 6, that intended to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential elections that saw Joe Biden as the winner.

The feud between McConnell and Trump seems to be ongoing as he said on Fox News that he did not watch the former president's speech and added, "We're dealing with the present and the future, not looking back to the past." While McConnell believes that Trump was responsible for the failed insurrection attempt, the Kentucky senator also voted to acquit Trump during his second impeachment. He said during his interview on Fox News that he would not take back anything from that floor speech and said that Republicans are more unified than they appeared to be.

McConnell said that while Republicans have "had some internal back and forth that's been widely covered", he said that the Republican Party is being unified in reaction to President Joe Biden's administration. McConnell said, "We're looking forward, we're not looking backward."

However, many on social media are criticizing his claim that he never saw Trump's CPAC speech. One user wrote, "Denial from @LeaderMcConnell has always been his go to when it comes to Trump He conveniently never read any of his tweets, didn’t hear his CPAC speech- we all know he is lying even if he didn’t hear every word of the speech, you know McConnell got the gist of it."

A user tweeted, "Why do they lie about these things? We KNOW they were paying attention," while another wrote, "Every time they say something like this they should play clips or read transcripts of what he said and then have them comment." Others even poked fun at McConnell's avoidance strategies, with Aaron Rupar tweeting, "OLD: I didn't read Trump's tweets NEW: I didn't watch Trump's speech." Another wrote, "FUTURE: I simply left my body behind and entered a catatonic state when Trump spoke to me in our in-person meeting."
