LONDON, UK: A dog’s life was saved recently after she fell down a cliff while enjoying a morning walk on Wednesday, April 19. The sprocker spaniel named Figgy was with her owner Kayley Williams above Thor's Cave in the Peak District when the accident happened. Initial efforts to locate the animal failed but an infrared camera drone helped in locating her and ultimately Figgy was reunited with a grateful Williams.

BBC reported that the rescue operation was conducted by the Derby Mountain Rescue team. It has been said that Williams was walking to Thor's Cave with her pet to watch the sunrise when Figgy plunged 100ft (30m) down. She said, “It was the first time I had been - and probably will be the last. We went up to the viewpoint and Figgy was exploring and just vanished. I didn't even realize the edge was there until I looked over myself.”

‘I assumed it was her body’

Williams continued, “I had almost no hope. Mentally, I was choosing what to do with the ashes. When they said they had found a heat source I assumed it was her body and hoped it would at least be in one piece. But then they showed me her on the camera and she was alive. Even then I thought she might be paralyzed or so badly injured she would have to be put down.”

BBC reported that Toby Green from the rescue team went down to carry the dog to safety. He shared, “Unbelievably, there was not a scratch on her, I was gobsmacked. She did give me a little growl because she was so scared, but after a few strokes, she seemed happier. I was going to try to carry her down in my arms but she was too wriggly so I put her in my rucksack.”

‘It was unbelievable’

While Williams added, “When Figgy was let out of the bag I made a noise I don't think I can describe. It was unbelievable, I was just so happy and I was so pleased. She gave the team a kiss, they were amazing.”

A statement by the Derby Mountain Rescue team noted, “We're happy to report that despite an extremely large fall, Fig appeared to have escaped unscathed, needless to say, she got lots of cuddles from the team too! UPDATE: Fig's owner has been in touch today to say Fig has actually sustained some broken ribs but is glad to be home safe and sound - Wishing them all the best from everyone at DMRT The team stood down just before 1:30 pm.”

Meanwhile, a lot of people took to Facebook to thank the team for their work as a user wrote, “Aaahhh. Amazing. Well done DMRT, pleased to hear you're doing well Figgy. Raksha.” Another user commented, “Thank you so much for saving Figgy and supporting Kayley. She is so incredibly grateful, as are her friends and family. You are an amazing team ❤️.” The third user added, “You did an amazing job. Thank you for helping figgy and Kayley. You guys deserve a medal.”
