A wholesome affair
'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always' isn't the greatest piece of cinema, but it will make you smile, cry, and cheer for your favorite Rangers for 55 minutes. Popular franchises often come up with specials to commemorate different milestones - 'Doctor Who' and 'Friends' being cases in point - but they all pale in comparison to this cheesy, action-packed, and extremely wholesome Power Rangers special.
True, you won't find anything resembling a great superhero movie in 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always', but instead, you will be welcomed by Robo Rita, the supervillain who simply won’t quit, and the Power Rangers, who remain undefeated once again. The action sequences and the plot in 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always' are subpar at best, and to anyone who isn’t an existing fan of the franchise, this might feel like a waste of an hour. There’s nothing wrong with reminiscing over a franchise with some good old-fashioned hand combat and enhanced tech.
Hearty reunion
'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always' has been presented as a reunion special to celebrate three decades, paying tribute to the actors who aren’t around any longer, to the fans who have stuck around for years and years, to the existing cast who continue to be a part of the legacy, and more importantly, to the superhero genre, which in its crux remains campy, cheesy, and heartfelt.
