As A-listers and fashion insiders arrived at the event to honor the late legendary fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld, all eyes were on the beige carpet adorned with vibrant red and blue swirls. It didn't take long for social media users to point out the striking similarity to a tube of Colgate toothpaste.

It's worth noting that the uncanny resemblance to toothpaste wasn't the only surprise at the Met Gala this year. Actress Olivia Wilde and Margaret Zhang, the editor-in-chief of Vogue China, were also spotted wearing the same dress at the event. The pair wore the vintage-inspired Chloé dress, which paid homage to Karl Lagerfeld's iconic 1983 design. While they had envisioned their outfits to be unique, they found themselves unexpectedly matching, albeit in different colors.

Internet users had a field day mocking the striking similarity of the Met Gala's red carpet to Colgate toothpaste. One user tweeted, "Why is the met gala carpet literally toothpaste." Another user added, "Toothpaste is clearly the theme for the 2023 Met Gala, not that weird guy that hated sweatpants." Another user mockingly shared the iconic Jason Derulo meme, "BREAKING NEWS: Jason Derulo has slipped on toothpaste and fallen down the stairs at the 2023 #MetGala."
