Officials say no foul play as they wait for an autopsy

The Cermak Health Services team started performing life-saving procedures while waiting for paramedics from the Chicago Fire Department to arrive after the officials dialed 911, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The officials say that as of now no foul play appears to be a factor in Turner's death. Turner was re-incarcerated at Cook County Jail late Thursday, March 2. It was after his housing site refused to take him after he was discharged from the Jackson Park Hospital.

Melvin was on electronic monitoring in February

Earlier, Turner had been placed on electronic monitoring in February following the charges of retail theft. The report stated that after being released from Jackson Park, the Cook County Sheriff's Electronic Monitoring Unit investigators escorted him to the Cook County Prison where he was assessed by staff from Cermak Health Services before being housed in the RTU unit.

Turner's cause of death wasn't known until the medical examiner's office performed an autopsy. The Cook County Sheriff's office and the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force were conducting an investigation.

Another Cook County Jail inmate died as a result of a violent attack in his cell this week, according to the county Sheriff's office. At 5.10 pm on Tuesday, correctional officers at the jail found Marvell Reasonover, 28, unresponsive in his cell at the maximum-security Division 9 of the jail. He was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died, the Sheriff's office said as per CBS. On Friday, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office determined the cause of Reasonover's death was injuries due to an assault, and the manner of death was a homicide.

Reasonover was being held on a $100,000 bond. He was sent to the jail on December 12, 2020, after being charged with responding to an ad for a Jeep online and then stealing the Jeep at gunpoint, the Sheriff's office said.
