Chicago gun violence: 13-yr-old boy and 6 others die in horrific shooting spree over the weekend

The Chicage shooting rampage that started from Friday, October 14, has also left 23 people injured

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: The shooting rampage prevails in Chicago as 7 people have lost their lives and 23 people are injured in the city since 5pm on Friday, October 14. A man was fatally shot in a hotel lounge while a lifeless body of a young boy was found on bench. The deadly encounter occured on Sunday, at around 1.21 am when a 35-year-old man got into a fight with someone at The Hotel Lincoln lounge in Lincoln Park. Police said that another 35-year-old shot and killed him. No one is arrested as of now. 

The incident happened just a few hours after Lavel Winslow, 13, was found on bench with a gunshot wound to his head. Winslow was pronounced dead at the hospital. A witness told police that he heard a loud bang before he noticed people fleeing the area on foot before calling for assistance on Friday. Winslow's devastated family members told CBS News, that they are "struggling to wrap their minds" around the tragic incident. However, this was just the beginning of a long list of gun violence that took place throughout the weekend.

What happened on Friday night?

A 'known male offender' approached and shot a 22-year-old man who got into a fight with a woman at around 9.27 pm on Friday before he fled the scene. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The investigation is currently ongoing. A 33-year-old woman, while she tried to get into a residential building, was attacked by a 62-year-old man just an hour on the same day at around 8.17 pm. But the attacker was shot several times by another woman, 54, who approached the scene. The 33-year-old is in a stable condition now. She suffered knife wounds to her hand and thigh and is in hospital for treatment, police said. However, the attacker is in a critical state as she sustained several gunshot wounds to his chest. The 54-year-old woman was taken to the police station. 

A 48-year-old man travelling in the passenger seat of a car, was shot by an "unidentified offender traveling in a white sedan", at around 10.46 pm. He sustained an injury to the thigh and an investigation is ongoing. A 32-year-old, and a 31-year-old man got into a verbal altercation with an unknown male who fired shots at them after walking away, just four minutes later at around 10.50 pm. The 32-year-old man was shot to the wrist while the other one had a graze wound to the thigh. 

What happened on Saturday morning? 

Just after midnight on Saturday, a witness found a 17-year-old boy with multiple gunshot wounds. He was later declared dead at a hospital. A 45-year-old-man was shot while sitting in a parked car by an unknown person at around 4.45 am. Around 6.10am, a 60-year-old man was shot several times on the redline as violence moved its way to the train. The victim, who is in a critical state, reportedly got into a fight with an unknown person, who fled the scene. 

Two other men were shot by a man in a gray car while they were walking down the road at around 10.23am. 

What happened on Saturday evening?

Later in that day, a 29-year-old man was shot in the stomach by an unknown person at around 3.54 pm. He is also in a critical condition and the investigation is still ongoing. Another man was shot in in the leg in front of a house, just 20 minutes later but fortunately he is in good condition. Another man, 39, who got into a verbal altercation, was also shot in the leg around 5.34pm. A 22-year-old male was killed after getting shot in the back and chest by an unknown person who broke into his apartment around 5.15 pm. 

A 58-year-old man was shot in a backyard in the knee at around 10.10 pm before another two victims were shot in a third-floor apartment hallway after 11pm. A 27-year-old male was pronounced dead on the scene after getting shot in the back and a woman, 25, was taken to the hospital with a wound to the leg. She is in stable condition now. Another man was shot minutes later by a "known female offender" in the head and was taken to the hospital.

What happened on Sunday morning and afternoon?

A 19-year-old male was shot in the early morning hours on Sunday while walking down the sidewalk. He was shot in the leg and is in good condition. Although the details of the incident is not known, police said that the shots were fired from a black SUV. Another man was rushed to the emergency room after he was shot in his left leg and right shoulder. Another 21-year-old male was shot at from a car around 11.06 am on Sunday. He is also in a stable condition but he did not know who shot him. 

An unknown offender shot a 20-year-old to the left hip and the right leg on the sidewalk just after noon. He is expected to survive. Three male victims, 30, 32, and 36 were shot in the leg from a car.

Two more homicides took places during this weekend in the city. A 20-year-old victim was shot dead after he sustained a gunshot wound to the lower back by an unknown offender. A 39-year-old female victim was discovered on the sidewalk unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to the body around 10.48 am on Saturday. She died from her injuries.
