Before Maxine Waters was accused of inciting violence in Minnesota through her speech to BLM protestors, the California REP had allegedly requested police security to travel to the area. Her speech was just days ahead of the upcoming verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020.

According to the outlet Townhall, documents reveal Waters had asked for the presence of armed personnel, making the request before while flying Minnesota's St. Paul International Airport on Saturday, April 17. Unfortunately, soon as she addressed the crowd of BLM protestors, she was met with wide spread backlash, with some even calling for her removal from Congress.

Speaking to the crowd in Minneapolis, Waters said that if Chauvin, the former cop of the city who killed Floyd by kneeling on his neck for 9 minutes, is not convicted, the movement has to become 'more active' and 'more confrontational'. "We've got to make sure that they know we mean business," she said in her speech which soon became controversial in the eyes of many including the judge presiding over Chauvin's trial. Judge Peter Cahill slammed the Congresswoman's comments, adding how he wished elected officials wouldn't speak publicly about the case before they announce a verdict.

"I'm aware that Congresswoman Waters was talking specifically about this trial and about the unacceptability of anything less than a murder conviction and talk of being confrontational," he said, adding: "This goes back to what I've been saying in the beginning, I wish elected officials would stop talking about this case, especially in a manner that is disrespectful to the rule of law and to the judicial branch in our function."

The House minority leader Kevin McCarthy stated he'll be planning a resolution to censure Waters over the remarks she made at the Minneapolis protest. "This weekend in Minnesota, Maxine Waters broke the law by violating curfew and then incited violence," the House Minority Speaker tweeted, adding: "Speaker Pelosi is ignoring Waters’ behavior—that’s why I am introducing a resolution to censure Rep. Waters for these dangerous comments."

Georgia's very controversial Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene even called for Waters' expulsion from congress, tweeting: "I just went inside the Capitol to file my resolution to #ExpelMaxineWaters for her history of inciting violence and ordering Black Lives Matter terrorism against National Guardsmen in Minnesota."

Social media however pounced at Waters' decision to rely on police while spreading her alleged 'hate speech' against them in her address to the BLM protest. "Tweeter management covering up the seditious behavior of Maxine Waters who called for anarchy and violence in Minneapolis while in turn demanding police protection while she delivered her hate speech on the Brooklyn streets," wrote a user. Another asked "Will you still vote for Maxine Waters when the verdict is overturned? She’s a disgraceful person who has the nerve to act like a tough guy at a protest against police, but still requests a police escort? Hypocritical and hateful is the worst combination."

Twitter users also complained how "Maxine Waters also made sure she had police protection something she wants to take away from Americans." Another claimed "Democrats are the true cowards and racist they live on hate they live on dividing this country. Maxine Waters a hypocrite she is was surrounded by police the very police she wants to take away from the average American while she lives in her gated community She absolutely called."
