NBC got slammed on Twitter after the network zoomed in on the wrong woman while trying to catch Matthew Stafford's wife's reaction during a game between Los Angeles Rams and Chicago Bears on 'Sunday Night Football.'

The mistake was made by NBC in the second quarter as they looked to pull the classic "wife watching her husband on the field" bit during the game. While the woman they chose to show via a split-screen between Stafford and his 'wife' had blonde hair and seemed to be rooting for the Rams, it was not Kelly Hall, the athlete's spouse. Hall is a pretty well-known face at this point given that she has been in the headlines for the past few years as she recovered from a brain tumor and openly criticized Covid-19 safety protocols.

In the latter half of the second quarter, NBC eventually realized the mistake, and broadcaster Al Michaels pointed out that Hall was the woman wearing the yellow shirt with the No 9 on it.  "We go at warp speed here. When Matthew looks at the tape of this game, and he goes, 'That's not my wife.' We had somebody else on before," Michaels said on the broadcast.

'NBC mistake is pretty bad'

The on-air gaffe left Twitter in splits. "NBC really zoomed in on a random white woman and said it was matthew stafford's wife im dying," one said while another noted, "'As Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly looks on…' Who’s going to tell @CollinsworthPFF?" A third added, "Ummm, that definitely is not Matthew Stafford’s wife. AWKWARD." One more quipped, "Y’all tell Al Michaels this isn’t Matthew Stafford’s wife." Another remarked, "OMG NBC showed the wrong woman as Matthew Stafford’s wife. Yikessss." The next commented, "Bold move by Matthew Stafford to have both of his wife’s at the game tonight."

One more stated, "Lmao someone please find the woman they put up at first that they said was Matthew Stafford’s wife, and then put his real one up they just showed side by side. That was hysterical. #SNF #CHIvsLAR" A commenter tweeted, "LOLOLOL there’s no way they just showed some random girl as 'Matthew Stafford’s wife' then had to correct it that is awesome." One more said, "NBC mistaking Matthew Stafford's wife is pretty bad." Another wrote, "Dear @NBCSports, that woman that was 'looking on' as Matthew Stafford played football was 100% NOT his wife Kelly Stafford”. #Rams #CHIvsLA" A person reacted with, "When Al and Chris get Matthew Stafford’s wife incorrect is every Dad because all blondes look alike #Stafford #Rams"

Who is Kelly Hall?

Kelly Hall was born on May 29, 1990, in Feltham, Middlesex, the United Kingdom to Jack and Leslie Hall. Her brother, Chad is a former NFL player and current Buffalo Bills wide receivers coach. Hall also attended the University of Georgia, where she was a cheerleader, and that’s how she met Matthew Stafford. The couple met at the University of Georgia where Stafford played football for the Bulldogs and Kelly was a cheerleader. They dated for a while before tying the knot on April 4, 2015, in a private ceremony. They have four daughters together, Sawyer, Chandler, Hunter, and Tyler.

Hall has been a model, endorsed brands and has been featured in ad campaigns. She had a brain tumor called acoustic neuroma for which she had to undergo brain surgery in 2019. On April 17, 2019, she underwent a 12-hour surgery to remove it. At the time, the doctor said that she had a 50% chance to lose her hearing and that she could even lose facial function. In an interview, Hall mentioned that her husband Matthew supported her through her recovery.
