Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee was trolled heavily on social media after she targeted Anthony Fauci in her latest tweet. In the wake of the Fauci email leak last week, Blackburn recently tweeted, "While Americans suffered, Fauci wrote a book." She took a jibe at Fauci's unreleased book 'Expect The Unexpected', which was recently scrubbed from Amazon and other online stores amid the email scandal.

However, Blackburn was soon owned on Twitter for being a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, who was also criticized for his alleged inaction during the Covid-19 pandemic. "Trump golfed," Twitter users reminded in response to Blackburn's tweet. Blackburn is yet to issue any response to the incessant trolling she faced on Twitter.

'While Americans suffered,  what were you doing?'

Blackburn's tweet kicked up a storm of retaliatory responses from the public as well as influential politicians. They used the phrase "While Americans suffered" to point out controversies surrounding GOP leaders and Trump supporters during the worst phase of the pandemic in the US. From Trump to Matt Gaetz, corruption and scandals by multiple GOP politicians were pointed out.

Sarah Reese Jones, editor-in-chief at Politicus USA, tweeted, "While Americans suffered Republicans like Marsha Blackburn supported their party line that older people should be willing to die for Trump. Now they’re mad that Fauci wrote a book." Ohio Democrat Jeff Sites tweeted, "While Americans suffered, Jim Jordan... also wrote a book." Democrat Mark Judson said, "While Americans participated in Democracy, RepubliQans lied, cheated, and made deals with foreign Governments to destroy it."

"Trump golfed," tweeted one user, reiterated by another who wrote, "And Trump golfed and held rallies." A third user posted a video of Trump holding a Bible in front of St John's Church, saying, "While Americans suffered, orange guy did this..." Filmmaker Jeremy Newberger directly targeted Blackburn, tweeting, "While Americans suffered, Marsha Blackburn lied for a sad racist clown. And still does."
