Marques Brownlee: Watch MKBHD unbox sealed iPhone 1.0 worth $40K
Marques Brownlee, famously known as MKBHD, is the godfather of tech reviews on YouTube. He is known for unboxing various phones across the years and giving in-depth reviews about them. In his most recent video, he was seen unboxing a sealed, unopened 2007 iPhone 1.0 which he purchased from an ‘auction site’.
Notably, the Youtuber paid a whopping $40,000 for this purchase. It is to be noted that only six million first-generation iPhones were ever produced, and finding one in its original sealed box is extremely rare. The highest recorded price for one of these is $63,000.

The Unboxing
In the video, it is shown that after the purchase, the auction site sent the phone to MKBHD in a big wooden box completely sealed with screws on all sides. After opening the box, the YouTuber finds out that there are many layers of packaging in order to protect the phone from any kind of damage during transit.
After finally dealing with all the bubble wrap and packing, the sealed box of the iPhone is finally revealed which has an upside-down sticker of ‘Lucky You’. MKBHD mentioned in his video that the phone is so old that people who worked at Apple back in 2007 also do not remember what that sticker means.
He finally cuts the packaging and is pretty much impressed that the cellophane covering the box is pretty old and not a re-sealed one. After opening the box he gets a first glimpse of the phone which is also sealed with factory packaging and has been untouched. The other items present in the box are a power adapter, a fiber cloth, an earphone which were pretty common back then, a charging dock, and a USB type A to 30-pin charging cable.
The Overview
MKBHD tries to switch on the phone saying that it would be a red flag if it starts. However, the phone does not seem to start which makes the Youtuber pretty satisfied with the purchase. He then puts the phone on the charging dock to charge and returns the next day.
After a day of charging, the phone finally starts to work. He added that the original charging brick present in the box was not working and used another brick to charge the phone.
He concluded the video by saying that he is satisfied that it is an original, sealed version of the iPhone because of various factors such as the cellophane wrap which does look like it was packed 16 years back, and also the packaging on the phone itself and other equipment which were present in the box.
