Georgia Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene warned recently that she would go for President Joe Biden’s impeachment on his very first day in office on charges of abuse of power. Greene, who is a Donald Trump sympathizer (the former president once called her future Republican star) and supporter of the QAnon conspiracy theories, called for the new president’s impeachment on various social media accounts during the inauguration on Wednesday, January 20.

On Thursday, January 21, the 46-year-old first-time Congress member announced that she has filed articles of impeachment against Biden. In a video, she was found saying: “I just filed articles of impeachment on President Joe Biden, we’ll see how this goes.”

Greene, who announced her plan to impeach Biden a day after Trump was impeached by the Democratic-controlled House for the second time and wore a mask with the word ‘CENSORED’ written on it as the House gathered to impeach the former president, has accused Biden of indulging in corrupt practices during his days as the vice president between 2009 and 2017. She alleged that Biden allowed his son Hunter to “siphon off cash from America’s greatest enemies Russia and China”.

'Greene thought it would be lot easier than it is'

However, a New Yorker staff writer from Atlanta reported that Greene was yet to file the impeachment articles against Biden because she found the procedure not so easy. Charles Bethea cited a GOP source in Georgia’s 14th district that Greene represents to say in a tweet that the lawmaker thought it would have been a much easier thing to do. “According to a GOP source in her district, Greene ‘thought it would be a lot easier than it is’,” the tweet said.

In another tweet, Bethea took a dig at Greene to say: “Rep. Greene’s new press release on her promised articles of impeachment -- which she claims to have just filed -- makes the case that proof readers and good lawyers are indispensable, and that she has neither.”

Trump himself has also attacked the Bidens over these allegations and his first impeachment in the House happened in December 2019 after the Democrats accused him of abusing the power of the president. Trump allegedly had sought favor from the president of Ukraine, a country where Hunter had once worked as a top energy firm official, to corner the Bidens. President Biden has consistently denied the allegations and pledged that his family “will not be involved in any business, any enterprise that is in conflict with or appears to be in conflict, where there’s an appropriate distance from the presidency and government”.

Greene, who was adamant to take on Biden, said America could not afford to have a president who has “threatened foreign governments to remove government officials”. She referred to a conspiracy theory that claimed Biden, as the veep, withheld congressionally-approved funds meant for Ukraine to see Kiev stop probing Hunter. She also posted a video that showed Biden seeking removal of a government official saying if his demand was not met, he will block $1 billion in American aid for them.
