'Senator killed my baby': Marine who lost wife and child, 5, in Janet Bewley car crash fears she'll 'get away'
The father of a five-year-old girl said he is terrified that Wisconsin Democratic leader Janet Bewley will not be charged despite being involved in a car crash that killed his daughter and wife. Marine Brandon Fink has slammed Bewley for not reaching out to him after the horrifying collision. 70-year-old Bewley had undergone cataract eye surgery the day before the fatal crash that killed Fink's wife Alyssa Ortman, 27, and daughter Khali, five.
The Ashland Police Department said that Bewley pulled out of the Maslowski beach parking lot and drove into the path of Ortman’s car at 12.30 pm on Friday, July 22. The two cars collided, leading to Ortman’s vehicle spinning across the Highway and subsequently being hit by Jodi Munson, 45, in another vehicle. While Khali was pronounced dead at the scene, Ortman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Calling for justice, Fink has said that Bewley must be treated like "anyone else". "I found out a Senator killed my baby and they might not even press charges even though she was on the phone during the accident," he told the Daily Mail. "And just had cataract surgery the day before. I'm furious and want this Senator to come to justice and pay for what she did like anyone else would have to. She shouldn't get away with this."
Fink described his daughter as a "hilarious, insanely beautiful, and smart girl that had a drive for life that touched so many." "Idk what to say.. I feel like people expect updates or to hear everything's going to be ok.. but it's not. Nothing will make this ok. Nothing will make me feel better and no I don't need anything. I was supposed to get my daughter home here, at her house and be hearing silly stories about vacation.. instead I got calls from the funeral home..," he wrote on Facebook. "I turn on the Switch and a game of Mario Smash bros pops up mid battle that I will never get let you win. I see the purse you got from Aunt Annie, half colored that you'll never get to complete... and I see our Daddy Pig painting half finished that you will never get to complete and sit beside the Peppa Painting we did together so wede have the Daddy and Daughter Pig.. just like us.. Little girl there are people heartbroke over you all over this Earth. We have a following of over 6000 on Twitter of people that that we made thier days brighter by posting our silly trampoline and other videos."
"You lit up my life and gave me an ambition and drive I didn't know was possible. I hear your voice giggling out "this is not a good idea" and it's just so perfect us.. even if we were doing something stupid, dangerous, silly, no matter what we just giggled out way through.. my life feels so empty without these giggles.. I could go on and on my lil Khali, in 5 years you did enough and touched enough people to talk about for a lifetime. Daddy misses and loves you like crazy little girl, I wish you could come back and then take me or something, anything but you being gone, the world needs more people like you," he added. "You will never be gone to me. I will always keep you with me.. I don't know how I'm ever supposed to want anything but to be with you.. how I'm ever going to focus on anything else.. you were my whole life and I just don't even know what else to say without getting dark.. it very hard to do but I am going to try for you little girl."
Ortman's brother, Christopher, had also reportedly lost his life to a drunk driver in October 2020. State police charged Warren Miller with a felony count of vehicular homicide for the death of Chris Ortman. Miller's Chevrolet Malibu smashed into Ortman’s Mercury Sable. An injured Chris was rushed to a hospital but he died from a cardiac arrest. Ortman's mother, Ginger, suffered a double heartache after her son's death.
Bewley was not injured in the crash, Ashland Police Chief Bill Hagstrom confirmed. He also said that State Patrol was reconstructing the scene. "We'll be sitting down with them and going over everything as far as determining how it all actually happened," Hagstrom said. "Then we'll forward everything to the district attorney for their review because it was a fatal accident. There's nothing suspected as far as alcohol or foul play or anything."
