In a tragic incident on Sunday afternoon, July 17, a member of the FDNY suffered a major injury when his leg got crushed while responding to a car crash in Manhattan. The incident took place in Hell’s Kitchen, at West 42nd Street and 11th Avenue around 3.20 pm, when one of the vehicles shifted and fell on top of the firefighter, leading to the injury.

As per an NBC report, during the incident there were several other firefighters at the spot trying to stabilize a BMW that was involved in the crash. However, while trying to free the occupants of one car involved in the two-vehicle crash Midtown, one of the firefighters' leg severely got damaged when one of the vehicles shifted and fell on him. Acting Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said in a statement, reported by NY Post, "As members from Rescue 1 tried to brace and stabilize the car on top and remove the occupants inside, the driver of one of the vehicles hit the gas and caused a car to fall and pin firefighter Ryan Warnock below.” Adding further about the firefighter's condition, who was rushed by his colleagues to Bellevue hospital, Kavanagh said, "Firefighter Warnock was unpinned and taken to Bellevue where he is in serious but stable condition, being treated for injuries to his leg."

According to reports, Matthew Wahn of Bayside, Queens, was going for an early dinner out when his white Volvo 360 T8 got struck from behind by a Black BMW X5. Both he and his wife Randi managed to avoid any injuries. “We felt a huge car hit us from behind — he drove up the side of our car,” narrated the 62-year-old Wahn. It was this SUV on top that slipped out of park, and the footage showed the FDNY member vanishing into the passenger seat before his femur snapped loudly.

Also, it's still unclear what caused the initial crash. However, no other injuries were reported on the scene.
