HEATHROW, LONDON: A bride-to-be left her fiance at London's Heathrow airport and ran away with his bags and £5,000 ($6050) cash. The couple, who are in their 40s, had got engaged just recently.

Apparently, the couple told the check-in staff at Heathrow on August 13 that they were going to Rome, where they intended to marry. However, when the British man left his fiancee with their suitcases to go to the washroom, she disappeared, taking everything with her. The shocked groom-to-be told Terminal 5 staff she took with her the £5,000 he gave her for the wedding.

One eyewitness said, "He was in bits — totally inconsolable. Apparently, they’d only met very recently and he’d fallen head-over-heels for her. He’d proposed a day earlier and she’d accepted." They added, “They’d planned to marry in Rome and were about to fly there. Then she did a runner while he went to the loo and vanished with all their belongings."

The onlooker continued, “Staff looked everywhere for her, but she was nowhere to be found. It wasn’t even clear if she’d gone out of the airport or on to another country [...] In the end, the police were called. Even her name was in doubt by then.”

A Met Police spokeswoman confirmed to The Sun that investigation is underway but added that “no arrests have been made at this time.”

This is not the first time such an incident has happened. A woman posted on Reddit in June that she left her husband stranded at the airport after he insisted she carried his bags to the car after a long flight.

The woman wrote, "My husband (32) was on a business trip that last for 4 weeks. Once his got back he told me to come pick him up." After she arrived, the man dropped his bags and indicated her to pick them up.

The woman wrote, "I tried to get him to stop but he told me to get the bags and follow him. Note that I'm 12 weeks pregnant but he tells me that I'm still 'in good shape.'"

When the woman refused and asked her husband to take help from someone else, he replied, "I already have one and it's you. come on I'm so tired of standing."

The woman continued, "I walked out and got into my car and drove off because I was literally having none of it. I felt so upset and humiliated." Apparently, the man then got a taxi to their home and has been ignoring her since.

She added, "He got home by a taxi but was livid at me for leaving him at the airport just because he asked for my help. He also said I embarrassed him and made a scene and overreacted big time. He went upstairs and stayed in the bedroom after the shower."
