A tree fell into the pool killing a woman
In another shocking incident, a woman lost her life while swimming in a pool when a tree fell into it. The accident happened in New York City in August of last year when Donna Douglas was inside the water with a 60-year-old neighbor. While the neighbor survived, the 50-year-old did not.
A neighbor as well as the witness of the incident, Mike Gallo, told The New York Post, “She swims with [redacted] every every day, every other day at [the] same time. They just take laps and they would, they swim right next to each other. So, the fact that one made it and one didn’t was … very, very freakish.”
Another neighbor Roberts reportedly said, “I didn’t go in the pool today because I had my eyes examined and I didn’t want to be in the sun, or I probably would’ve been in there. You never go for a walk when it’s storming because of all the trees. I never worried about the trees falling on the pool down there because they were wonderful to have a breeze; it was a great escape. We’re just in shock. It’s like the worst thing.”
‘Everybody was screaming’
Miriam Allen, who lives in the River Terrace Apartments on Palisades Avenue where the incident happened, shared, “Everybody was screaming, ‘Help! Help!’ My windows were open, so I heard everything immediately. I looked down and I saw the tree in the swimming pool. I knew there were three or four people in it.”
The building superintendent Alex Syku stated, “Her body was under the branches, so I pull her out. And when I pull her out, I saw her, she was no…she was dead.” Resident Sebastian Bliffeld noted, “A loss of life like that, it’s just unimaginable. It’s unimaginable,” before speaking of the surviving woman. He added, “She's OK now, but she has a scar under her eye and a lump on her head. It's a very traumatic experience. They were swimming maybe two feet apart from each other. At the end of the day, someone's going home and someone's not.”
