Mama June credits Keto diet for helping her tackle weight gain
Mama June's proceeding blindness has been on the news for quite a while now; the famous mom of reality TV's favourite child Honey Boo Boo recently came out in the open about why she has gained back around 25 lbs post her extremely dramatic weight-loss transformation about two years ago, explaining that the weight gain is mostly owing to her blindness curbing her exercise. But as per recent updates, looks like she has finally found a way to tackle the weight gain.
Right now, on her journey of recovering from multiple eye surgeries to fix her vision, Mama June has found help in the Keto diet and it's helping her keep her weight down.
The 38-year-old From Not to Hot star whose full name is Mama June Shannon, shared with People magazine on Wednesday that she has undergone four surgeries to regain vision in her left eye, which also happens to be the only eye she still has eyesight in.
She has gone blind in her right eye and this has caused severe lack of physical activity - the major factor contributing to her weight gain. But she still hasn't given up hope and is trying her best to stay under 200 lbs, and the keto diet has become her best friend to ensure that.
“I’ve tried the keto diet, and it’s not that bad. It’s like, cheese, eggs, protein, meat. And you honestly lose weight with that,” she said in an interview with BUILD Series. “That’s what I’ve been going back to, and I’ve started losing a couple pounds. But it actually, really works.”
All about proteins and extra fat — with a negligible amount of carbs — the keto diet sends the body into a state of ketosis, where the body starts burning fat instead of glucose for energy.
The diet has been a buzzing trend, highly promoted by celebs like Halle Berry, Kim Kardashian, and even Rihanna. And now, clearly, the latest addition to the list of its fans is Mama June who claims it suits her cravings since she has never been a fan of carbs.
“I don’t eat bread or pasta,” she said, much to the shock of the audience. However, she also added that just because it works for her doesn't mean it will work for everyone.
“I’m not here to tell people how to diet, because everyone’s different, but I know what has worked for me,” she said. “I think people just don’t need to give up, and I think that’s what happens with a lot of diets nowadays. I’ve done that.”
Mama June's much talked about weight-loss transformation saw her losing nearly 300 lbs in 2017, through a gastric sleeve procedure, overhauling her diet, and working rigorously with a trainer. She had also debuted her new size-4 body on her WEtv show. But with her impaired vision seemingly taking over her life now, she is trying to worry less about her weight gain.
“I’m just focused on getting my vision back,” she shared with People magazine. “I can lose the weight, I know that. And I know I don’t want to go back over 200 lbs. I’m paying attention to it more.”
