MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE: The unsolved and mysterious case of Harmony Montgomery's disappearance has made a revelation. According to the police investigating the case, Montogomery was murdered in December 2019, citing new ''biological'' evidence but refusing to say what it is. Montgomery was five years old when her mother last saw her alive in New Hampshire in 2019.

The child's life was marred by allegations of abuse, neglect, and being moved in and out of social services care. She had been missing for nearly two years by the time authorities became involved in the investigation into her disappearance in September 2021. At a press conference on Thursday, August 11, New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella stated that the investigation was no longer focused on her disappearance, but rather on finding the person who killed her, DailyMail reported.

The police have refused to reveal the nature of their new evidence. They are yet to find the child's remains. Authorities stated that they had ''recently uncovered biological evidence'' that led to their classification, but they have not disclosed what that evidence is. Montgomery's mother, Crystal Sorey, lost custody of her when she was four years old in 2018. Sorey had a history of substance abuse.

The young girl moved in with her father, Adam Montgomery, but it wasn't long before the Department of Children arrived, citing reports of abuse. She was mysteriously allowed to remain in her father's care. Sorey spoke to her daughter on FaceTime over Easter in April 2019. It was the last time she had seen her daughter alive.

Adam admitted to a relative in July 2019 that he ''bashed'' Harmony during one incident after she tried to stop her younger brother from crying during a bath. Harmony had a black eye, according to a Department of Children case worker who visited the home. Similarly in August 2019, A DCYF caseworker returned to the home and noticed a red mark in Harmony's eye and faded bruising under her eyelid. The injuries are being attributed to ''horseplay'' with a younger sibling.

Months later, in October 2019, a second worker visited the home and stated that the resident appeared ''happy.'' There were multiple reports to child services from people in her life that she had bruises and red marks on her face in the months before she was last seen alive. However, her father, Adam, was never charged. He claimed she had hit herself with a toy while playing, which explained her injuries.

On the 27th of November, 2019, the Montgomery family has been evicted from their apartment in New Hampshire. Montgomery was homeless and living out of a car with her family in the days before her disappearance, according to investigators. Montgomery was last seen alive between November and December of 2019.

In January 2020, a DCYF case worker contacts Adam Montgomery to check on the child. He informs them that she was residing with her mother. Caseworkers visited twice at the Montgomery home in 2021. Montgomery's mother contacted authorities in September 2021, concerned that Sorey hadn't seen her daughter since 2019 and hadn't been able to contact Adam Montgomery. Therefore, Montgomery was officially reported missing in November 2021.

In January 2022, investigators searched the New Hampshire home and garden where Montgomery lived with her father prior to her disappearance.
Her father was sentenced to prison on charges of endangering her welfare in connection with the July 2019 assault, among other things. But, he was not charged in connection with her disappearance. However, he never told the police where she is.

The last time Montgomery was seen alive was by Adam's girlfriend, Kayla, who said she had driven the girl to her mother's home in Massachusetts. In April 2022, Adam was indicted on charges of stealing a rifle and a shotgun in the months before Montgomery's disappearance. Which made the FBI officers search the Montgomery family's former home for a second time and are seen removing a refrigerator and other pieces of furniture in June 2022.

This month, the police officially declared the investigation as a homicide investigation. In a statement on Thursday, August 11, New Hampshire governor Chris Sununu said, ''Our greatest fears were confirmed today and now our efforts shift to ensuring justice for Harmony". ''I commend the tireless dedication of the law enforcement community for their unwavering efforts and commitment to transparency and recognize they have much work ahead of them".

"We have come to know Harmony through her bright smiles in her photos and she will not soon be forgotten by her fellow Granite Staters", Sununu said. Blair Miller, the adoptive father of Montgomery's biological brother Jamison, said, "We will forever question why so many steps in the legal process were missed and ignored before decisions were made to reunite Harmony with her father and to deprive her and Jamison of a life together". "As we work to be part of the process to bring change to the system that failed Harmony and our son, we are aware that many aspects of Harmony and Jamison' cases should have been treated differently", he added.
