DUXBURY, MASSACHUSETTS: Lindsay Musgrove Clancy, who allegedly strangled her three children to death in a bout of severe postpartum psychosis, is recuperating in a Massachusetts hospital from injuries she sustained after jumping out of a window. The heartbreaking case has divided the Internet over the mother's fate - some sympathize with her mental state, while others call for her to be jailed for life.

Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and seven-month-old Callan Clancy were strangled last week at the family home in Duxbury. Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead at a Massachusetts hospital on January 24, the day of the attack. Callan, the youngest sibling, also succumbed to his injuries on Friday, January 27. Lindsay, 32, is currently facing at least two counts of murder and other charges.

What is postpartum psychosis?

According to NBC News, postpartum psychosis is an illness characterized by hallucinations and delusions that alter mothers' sense of reality after giving birth and, in some cases, even driving them to harm themselves or their children. Medical experts say the condition is treatable but requires emergency psychiatric care. In light of this, many people on social media sympathized with Clancy despite her actions.

"Maybe an unpopular opinion but Lindsay Clancy should not be charged… she will have to live with the guilt of what she did forever & that is worse than any prison sentence. I hope this opens people’s eyes to what women go through after birth," one tweeted in support. "The news of Lindsay Clancy, a mother of three being treated for PPD psychosis who unalived her kids truly gutted me. It’s rare to feel sympathy for someone with blood on their hands. But mental illness can impair your thinking and destroy everything you truly love," another wrote. "I cannot speak for Lindsay Clancy’s parenting as a whole but I can say that having postpartum psychosis is not a choice and doesn’t mean you’re a bad person. having it, and your actions because of it are not a reflection of who you are as a whole," a comment read. "Anyone calling Lindsay Clancy evil, please look up postpartum psychosis and use just a crumb of critical thinking," someone else added. "I hope the insurance company that refused to approve Lindsay Clancy’s emergency mental health care knows that the blood is on their hands," another chimed in.

'This person is a monster'

Some, however, upheld that the Duxbury mother should face the consequences for killing her innocent children. "The fact that people are forgiving Lindsay Clancy is baffling, FIGHT ME on this one idc," one declared. "If Lindsay Clancy was 100% unhinged and not in control of her actions- she wouldn’t have waited till her husband left to carry out her actions. Seems like she was knowingly waiting for the opportunity," another speculated. "As a woman and mother, this person is a monster. PPD or psychosis or not. Reports indicate she was being treated. Her husband was WFH to help her, rarely left alone. Glad she survived so that she can suffer the rest of her life for what she did to those poor innocent children," someone else wrote. "I have no faith in humanity #LindsayClancy murders 3 babies, husband forgives her post a go fund me, saying funeral expenses & LEGAL FEES… pay for her defense because the whole world is sympathizing w/ A MURDERER!! You barely hear the baby's names it’s all about her! SICK WORLD," a comment read. "Ok unpopular opinion: Lindsay Clancy should still be held accountable for killing her children. Like wtf? And people feel sorry for her and not her babies? I mean I understand PPD IS REAL! Depression is real, but it is not a pass to kill someone, especially your own blood," another opined.

Investigators believe Lindsay attacked her children and jumped from a second-floor window at their family home. Emergency responders found her and the kids unconscious with obvious signs of trauma. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for the mother on two counts of homicide and three each of strangulation and assault and battery with a deadly weapon. According to New Haven Register, Lindsay worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital and is currently being treated at a Boston hospital. She may be facing additional charges and her arraignment is yet to be scheduled at this time.
