Lewis Hamilton has unfollowed everyone on Instagram as he continues to stay mum in the wake of the dramatic defeat in the Formula One season finale earlier this month. On the penultimate lap of a spectacular race in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton, 36, was controversially pipped to the world championship by Max Verstappen, 24. Speculations were rife that Hamilton's defeat was because of the decision made by FIA Formula One Race Director Michael Masi. Masi was harshly criticized by fans and experts as well.

In the immediate aftermath of the desert decider, the seven-time world champion was polite in defeat but has since been maintaining silence on the race and his Formula One future. Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff too raised worries over Hamilton's racing career. Now, the 36-year-old has sparked speculation after he unfollowed a number of profiles on his Instagram page.

Fans on social media came out to express their concerns about it. One person tweeted with confusion, “Just noticed that Lewis Hamilton has unfollowed everyone on Instagram”, while another said, “Doesn't mean anything. I think it means he is not online anymore and wants to focus on the 2022 season, working as hard as he can with having no distractions.”. “Can we just take a moment to just see if Lewis Hamilton is okay please he has literally unfollowed everyone on his Instagram! Hope your okay champ!” yet another person commented.

Hamilton's account, which has over 26 million followers, allows fans to see images of him with his crew, famous friends, and his dog, Roscoe, on and off the track. It's unclear why Hamilton took the decision to unfollow all, but it's not the first time he unfollowed followers on the social media platform. He did that in 2019 as well.

'Lewis Hamilton and I are disillusioned at the moment,' Wolff remarked of the disputed title decider in Abu Dhabi. He went on saying that, “We love the sport with every bone in our body, and we love it because the stopwatch never lies. But if we break that fundamental principle of sporting fairness and authenticity of the sport, then suddenly the stopwatch doesn't become relevant anymore because we are exposed to random decision-making, which it is clear you may fall out of love with. That you start to question if all the work you have been putting in — all the sweat, tears, and blood — can actually be demonstrated in terms of being the best possible performance on track because it can be taken away randomly.”
