CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA: A new court records reveal that the mother of Quinton Simon previously acknowledged using drugs while pregnant, as authorities remove her other two children from their grandmother's care. Leilani Simon, 22, is described as a ‘chronic, unrehabilitated substance abuser of cocaine and cannabis’ in court records. She allegedly admitted taking cocaine and tested positive for the drug at the birth of one of her children.

Meanwhile, since Child Protective Services took custody of her two other children on October 12, she is now the main suspect in the missing and assumed death of her 1-year-old son, Quinton. Billie Jo Howell, Leilani's mother, had custody of her grandchildren, but Chatham County Child Protective Services determined that she had failed to provide proper supervision. According to WTOC, she is alleged to have left the children with their mother when the maternal grandmother flew out of state, despite knowing that her daughter was unfit to give sufficient care to her children. While the courts decide who will have custody of the children, they have now been placed in foster care, reported The US Sun.

Now Quinton Simon's mom is MISSING! Georgia cops don't know where prime suspect Leilani Simon is

At the Chatham County Juvenile Court on Monday, October 17, the two siblings of Quinton had their initial custody hearing. According to WTOC, Leilani was seen in the courtroom wearing a dress and a mask as she sat just feet away from her mother. The fathers of Leilani’s children also appeared at the hearing over video chat, as they fought for the custody of their children.

Cody Wharton, father of Zayne, one of Leilani's three children, said in an exclusive interview with The Sun on Friday, October 14, that he was ‘questioning everything.’ Although Wharton seeks sole custody of Zayne, one of the childreb taken from Leilani's house, Georgia's severe custody laws favor the mother. Wharton said, "Zayne needs to be with me. I want to make sure he's safe. Even now, I'm questioning everything. Is he hurt? What is he doing? I don't want to get a call saying your son is hurt and going to the hospital." While dating, Wharton claimed Leilani battled with her mental health, as detailed in the court records. "She's always been unpredictable. But I wasn't worried about Zayne's safety until all this started going on. She was a good mother. I don't know what happened,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, searches are still being conducted for the missing 20-month-old, who authorities now believe is dead. When Quinton's mother initially reported him missing on October 5,  she stated that he was nowhere to be found when she woke up at 9.30 am. But after reviewing data from his smartphone authorities identified her as the main suspect in his death. Authorities said they want to make sure they have solid proof before they arrest or prosecute her in order to get a conviction, thus they have not yet disclosed what kind of evidence they have against her.
