Lauren Boebert chews gum and rolls eyes at Joe Biden's Medicare speech, Internet says 'flashback to 6th grade'

Rep Lauren Boebert of Colorado took a unique approach towards some of the statements made by President Joe Biden during his hour-long Congress address on Wednesday night, April 2. Boebert, who was chewing a gum behind her mask, shook her head and rolled her eyes as Biden addressed gun laws and cheaper Medicare.

In his first presidential address to Congress, Biden addressed the US health care system saying it "should be a right, not a privilege in America". Biden also called out high costs of prescription drugs. He said, "In addition to my families plan, I’m going to work with Congress to address this year other critical priorities for American families. The Affordable Care Act has been a lifeline for millions of Americans protecting people with preexisting conditions, protecting women's health. And the pandemic has demonstrated how badly, how badly it's needed. Let's lower deductibles for working families on the Affordable — in the Affordable Care Act. And let's lower prescription drug costs." As soon as he passed this comment Boebert shook her head. When Biden started talking about gun violence, his statements made Boebert roll her eyes.

He further added: "In the '90s, we passed universal background checks, a ban on assault rifles and high capacity magazines that hold a hundred rounds that can be fired off in seconds. We beat the NRA. Mass shootings and gun violence declined," as soon as these comments were made by Biden, Boebert was once again caught on camera rolling her eyes.

News viewers noticed Boebert's expressions and in no time her name started trending on Twitter. One internet user said, "How disrespectful do these senators have to be? Boebert rolling her eyes, Cruz and Romney nodding off. I’d get fired from any job for doing that." While one person had a "flashback" as she wrote, "Lauren Boebert rolling her eyes and smacking her bubble gum under her mask gave me a flashback to 6th grade."

One person pointed out, "Boebert actually scowled, shook her head and rolled her eyes when Biden called for lower prescription drug costs. She wants HIGHER drug costs?" Another one sarcastically said, "I think Boebert injured herself rolling her eyes too hard." 

Talking about the "pubic interest issue", one person said, "Boebert also shook her head aggressively when @POTUS said he wants to reduce prescription costs. That’s a huge public interest issue. #maga needs to open their eyes, ears, and hearts—assuming they still have one. #JointAddress #PresidentialAddress #JohnLewisVotingRightsAct." Slamming her, another one said, "Lauren bitch Boebert hasn’t even been on the earth long enough to pretend she knows anything. Let her roll her eyes like a highschooler. Fits perfectly."

Making fun of Boebert's reaction one said, "Lauren Boebert is shaking her head, rolling her eyes and folding her arms when others are clapping. What a mature, elegant little girl." Another one asked, "Perfect timing. While Biden is talking about gun regulation, the camera moves to our favorite hated congresswoman Lauren Boebert. She’s shaking her head & rolling her eyes. Colorado can we please remove her in the next election? #PresidentialAddress #JointSession #JointAddress."

This was Biden's first speech to a joint session of Congress, just one day prior to 100 days in office. The setting was very different from a typical address though. Due to the pandemic, tickets were limited and social distancing rules were in place.
