BALTIMORE, MARYLAND: 'Lady in the Lake' Episode 3 has officially dropped on Apple TV+ and Maddie Schwartz's (Natalie Portman) journey takes a significant turn as she endeavors to build a life without her husband's support.

Having left her husband to pursue her investigation into Tessie Durst's (Bianca Belle) death, Maddie is now focused on establishing herself as a capable and determined woman.

In this episode, Maddie faces numerous challenges as she navigates the complexities of investigative journalism. Her determination to uncover the truth about Tessie's death drives her to dig deeper, often putting herself at risk.

Let's discuss key events from 'Lady in the Lake' Episode 3, and speculate on what might happen in Episode 4.

'Lady in the Lake' Episode 3 opens with a flashback to Cleo Johnson's (Moses Ingram) childhood, where she dreams about ghosts and sheep.

She overhears her parents arguing about her father's involvement with Shell Gordon (Wood Harris), which forced him to sell his trumpet to pay off debts. Witnessing her father's financial struggles, young Cleo decides to offer him the money she earned from doing part-time jobs.

As the episode progresses, the adult Cleo is in a state of panic and contacts Reggie Robinson (Josiah Cross) about the shooting, which has only injured Myrtle Summer (Angela Robinson).

In the previous episode, Cleo was given the task of delivering money to a man who then coerced her into driving to Myrtle, apparently with the intention of killing her. Unwittingly, Cleo becomes involved in this assassination attempt.

Instead of owning up to putting Cleo in a difficult situation, Reggie frames it as a matter of gaining Gordon’s trust. The police also begin investigating the assassination attempt.

Reggie does not inform Gordon that he was the one who sent Cleo to drop the money to the man, and consequently, she was present at the crime scene because of his actions.

Meanwhile, Maddie approaches Bob Bauer (Pruitt Taylor Vince) seeking a journalist position at The Baltimore Star. She expresses her desire to interview Stephen Zawadzkie (Dylan Arnold), who is in custody for Tessie's murder.

When Bauer refuses, Maddie decides to proceed on her own. She pens a letter to Zawadzkie, which successfully reaches his cell. She also sends him photographs of herself.

As the episode unfolds, Maddie arrives late to an event at her son's school, which understandably angers Seth (Noah Jupe). In her frustration, Maddie tells Seth to stop idolizing Milton (Brett Gelman), revealing that Milton is not his father. However, Seth appears to already know this and is indifferent to the revelation.

Officer Ferdie Platt (Y'lan Noel) manages to physically apprehend one of the assailants who attempted to kill Myrtle. Recognizing Cleo's connection to the incident, he decides to visit her and confront her directly.

Platt urges Cleo to divulge the details of the operation she was involved in, seeking any information that could help him understand the situation better.

Under pressure, Cleo reluctantly provides the license plate number of the car used by the gangsters. However, she resolutely keeps Gordon's involvement a secret, aware of the potential repercussions of revealing his name.

Meanwhile, Cleo's son falls ill, prompting her to blackmail Reggie for money to cover his treatment. She confronts Reggie, chastising him for throwing her under the bus while basking in Gordon’s trust.

Cleo demands the winning number in Gordon’s race-betting racket. If Reggie helps her win money, she promises to consider them even and allow Reggie to continue living his lie.

Later, Cleo plants the idea in Dora Carter’s (Jennifer Mogbock) mind that if she ever goes missing, Dora should report Reggie to the authorities.

In the end, Bauer agrees to let Maddie pursue the story. He stipulates that while the byline will be attributed to him, Maddie will be recognized as a contributor.

Later, Maddie and Bauer visit the doctor to gather more information about Tessie's death. The doctor reveals that, in addition to gravel, Tessie had skin cells found under her nails. However, Zawadzkie didn’t have any scratch marks on his body. Maddie then arranges a meeting to interview Zawadzkie.

In 'Lady in the Lake' Episode 4, Maddie might uncover the truth about Tessie's death. The fact that Tessie had skin cells under her nails suggests she fought off her attacker, but since Zawadzkie had no scratch marks on his body, he might not be the killer.

Maddie is likely to discover crucial details about Tessie’s murder that are being concealed. After conducting the interview with Zawadzkie, Maddie may piece together a detailed account of the night Tessie was killed.

Through Zawadzkie’s revelations, she could uncover whether he was indeed the perpetrator or if he was set up by someone else.

If Maddie's interview with Zawadzkie is published, it has the potential to draw significant attention to Tessie's death. The publication could also put pressure on law enforcement and other authorities to re-examine the case.
