Josh and Scott get the short end of the stick as they are suddenly ambushed by two men who attack them. Much to Scott's awe, he realizes the men can speak English, which is unnatural as according to his timeline, it would be centuries before Europe invaded America. As Eve and Levi try to gather everyone to escape, they notice the people of the settlement returning, sending everyone on a wild goose chase. Riley and Josh barely make it out alive, but decide to go back to the settlement to save Eve. Eve and Levi are nearly cornered until they enter a hut housing four children.
They hide in the hut and are saved by one of the children who lies about their whereabouts. The young child asks if they are the 'Sky people' and is worried if they will take his village away. Eve assures him that is not the case, prompting him to warn them about his grandfather. He helps them escape because should his grandfather find them, they will not survive. The group manages to find each other and with the child's help, barely makes it out alive. However, the village elder, the child's grandfather corners them just as Eve and Levi are about to make their escape. He gets ready to shoot an arrow but is stopped by a woman, who calls him 'Sylus' and tells him to let them go.
Back at the came, Ty (Chiké Okonkwo) believes that Lilly ( Chloe De Los Santos) is not truly opening up. In order to find out what happened to Eddie, he organizes a softball game to win Lilly's trust. Veronica (Lily Santiago) tells Ty that their father was deeply religious and that he didn't allow them to interact with others, which is why she is so protective of Lilly. However, Ty senses something is deeply wrong. When Veronica is away later that evening, he tries to talk to Lilly and assures her that he is a friend. Lilly opens up and tells Ty the truth -- Veronica is not her sister, but a woman who abducted her from her real family. Veronica returns and when Ty tries to confront her, she runs off into the woods.
In the modern world, Gavin (Eoin Macken) braces himself to fly down to save his family. Rebecca (Ming-Zhu Hii) and Sophia (Virginie Laverdure) soon reveal the threats of the mission -- with high security around the sinkhole, it will have to be a covert operation. If Gavin is caught, he will be shot down. Sophia agrees to tamper with the security system so that he can fly undetected -- as she explains, four years ago, her own fiance, Diane went to the Mohave desert as a part of the expedition crew.
Gavin realizes the risks and declines to pilot the plane, as he needs to be there for Izzy. Rebecca uses her last card to convince him -- back in LA she made a startling discovery. She began excavation on the site where the La Brea survivors made their settlement and began to find multiple artifacts, including a letter from Eve, dating back to 10,000 BC. She shows the letter to Gavin and Izzy, in which she explains that they arrived down in that land 5 days ago and since then, it seems as though the portal connecting the two worlds is starting to shut. Rachel relays the new risk in the mission -- if Gavin flies down there, there is a good chance he might get stuck too. Although he is hesitant, Izzy insists that her father should not worry about her and focus on saving their family instead.
