While Levi's (Nicholas Gonzalez) rescue mission failed, he did manage to find Eve (Natalie Zea). However, the group soon encounters more anomalies that continue to baffle them. 'La Brea' Episode 2: Eve saves Josh, Gavin's link to the sinkhole is revealed

While Episode 3 ends with a confirmation that Levi is alive, Episode 4 picks up with the group realizing that the plane they saw can help them. Eve, Josh (Jack Martin), Riley (Veroncia St Clair), Scott (Rohan Mirchandaney) and Lucas (Josh McKenzie) all set out in the hope of finding. They soon stumble upon Levi, who, for the most part, is okay. He explains that he was sent on a rescue mission. However, he needs to locate his jet. Along with the group, they set out to do the same.

Meanwhile, Scott, who recently realized that the copious amounts of heroin he found belong to Lucas, is exceptionally paranoid around him. They eventually find the plane but seeing that the right engine compressor is dead, flying out of the sinkhole is no more an option. Oddly enough, Levi notices that the plane is picking up a signal 5miles from where they are. The group decides to investigate the following day. Levi tells Eve how Gavin (Eoin Macken) is the one trying his best to get them out there, and the trauma and visions that plagued their marriage are now the one thing that can save them.

Back at camp, Ty (Chiké Okonkwo) goes out hunting with a fellow survivor named Eddie. However, when left alone, Eddie encounters something sinister that takes away his life. Lilly ( Chloe De Los Santos)is the first to stumble upon his body while running away from Veronica (Lily Santiago), who assaults her again and demands she stay silent. Lilly, too, is nearly attacked by the same thing that killed Eddie. Sam (Jon Seda), Ty and Marybeth (Karina Logue) launch an investigation to figure out what happened. Sam explains that Eddie's injury was as though he was struck by lightning, implying that he was electrocuted.

However, with no one having any access to electricity, it baffled the group. The next day, Ty tries to talk to Lilly about what she saw, but Veronica insists she maintains her mute act. Finally, Lilly lashes out and explains what she saw -- an old man was about to attack her, but he didn't. She recounts that he had a handprint on his back. As she says this, the old man is seen watching the group. The recon group also finds something strange -- a complex fortified settlement that Scott explains should not be present in this era. The group enters the settlement, as a handprint is seen on the arch of the same gates.

Back in modern times, Gavin's attempts to save his family now seem futile. Seeing that Levi's plane caused seismic activity, the rescue mission has been called off. After some snooping around, Gavin finds Dr Rebecca Aldridge, a woman who worked on this phenomenon, along with Dr Sophia Nathan. He realises that there have been many such sinkholes, and Dr Aldridge might have the answers. When he arrives on her ranch, he finds more than answers -- he finds that Rebecca has her jet, similar to the one Levi flew into the sinkhole, as she designed the original one. The only thing is, she needs a pilot. Since Rebecca and Sophia are working together, they now have the pilot they need to launch their own investigation and rescue mission -- Gavin.
