How did SHINee’s Jonghyun die? Minho lovingly calls him 'good uncle', explains why they are four members now
SHINee members took a look back at their careers from 2008 to now along with some of the Internet's most famous kids, popular on the Youtube channel ODG. While the video showed the concise summary of SHINee’s growth and a number of curious hairstyles in between, it also brought out the stark question when SHINee went five to four, making one kid inevitably ask, "What happened to Jonghyun?" Here’s what supergroup SHINee’s K-pop star Minho answered.
The four members of SHINee sat down with kids seen on the YouTube channel ODG to take a look at all their comeback stages from the past. From their debut stage ‘Noona You’re So Pretty’ to their extremely catchy song ‘Ring Ding Dong’ and the iconic ‘Sherlock’ stage, kids got a glimpse of SHINee’s biggest comebacks.
It was in 2018’s comeback where SHINee performed after Jonghyun’s unfortunate demise that this question was raised. Minho’s partner in the segment Haeun asked, “How come one person is missing?” followed by "Did he leave the group, is he a bad uncle?” Minho answered with utmost sincerity sharing, “he was in pain. He is a good uncle.”
How did SHINee’s Jonghyun die?
SHINee’s Jonghyun was one of the most promising K-pop singers to ever exist and, to simply say, his sudden and unfortunate death caused extreme shock and grief among worldwide fans of K-pop will be an understatement. The singer reportedly took his own life in a hotel room by carbon monoxide poisoning.
He was dealing with depression and before his death, the singer sent a couple of texts to his sister saying, “This is my last farewell”, “Things have been so difficult” and “Please let me go and say I did a good job”. Jonghyun was found unconscious in his room and later police found a coal briquette burning on a frying pan in the room which caused the carbon monoxide poisoning.
The new video and SHINee Minho’s loving remarks have made the Internet remember the artiste who was not just famed for being a part of SHINee but his solo albums too speak of his striking ability to make music that connected with fans. Jonghyun’s first solo extended play ‘Base’ released in 2015 and got him number one on the Billboard World Albums chart.
Fans have taken to Twitter to express how much they miss the K-pop crooner. A user said, “I'm not a shawol but I just get very sad and even cried a lot of times thinking about him...idk!” Another said, “not a shawol but my heart aches when i think about him. Only he knows the pain he felt while answering that question. But you are strong SHINee and Shawol, u went through the worst times. I respect u from the bottom of my heart. SHINee will forever be 5 and i'm sure he is proud.”
A fan noted, “It was honestly so sweet. I literally almost cried because of how calm Minho explained to her!” Another said, “I really love how Minho explained this. He handled this question so well. I love how SHINee always keeps Jonghyun in their memory.”
