Following the traumatic ordeal, the child was safely returned to his parents. However, it's unclear how close they were to the shopping cart at the time of the incident. Shoppers at the Walmart also recalled the horrific incident as they described hearing loud screaming from across the store. "I was there, It was insane, she was screaming, 'I'm gonna kill this f*****g child, someone call child protective services, call the cops' ... it was insane," one person wrote on Facebook with another saying, "I was there and heard a lot of yelling coming from the other side of the store, that's exactly what was going on!!"
Texas Walmart witnessed similar incident
This incident came amid a sudden rise in the number of child kidnapping incidents. In a similar incident, a Texas woman was arrested after she attempted to kidnap a four-year-old girl inside a Walmart in San Antonio in September 2022. The incident happened when the suspect Jessica Vega, tried to take away a shopping cart with a baby girl sitting in the child seat. The distressed mother screamed in horror when she noticed Vega had walked off with her child. On being confronted, Vega reportedly told the mother, "Just because she's yours, doesn't mean I can't take her."
The baby girl was rescued only after witnesses and shop employees rushed to the mother’s aid. Vega was later arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping. It was later revealed that before her arrest, Vega was convicted of faking a cancer diagnosis to scam people out of thousands of dollars to pay for her dream wedding and honeymoon, Ksat reported. Vega pleaded guilty after serving several months in an Orange County, New York, jail and was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay restitution.
