PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Republican leader Kevin McCarthy's criticized the dinner meeting between Donald Trump and the White nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes, but fell short of actually condemning the former POTUS. What attracted particular ire from online critics was that McCarthy seemed to absolve Trump of any blame by insisting that Trump was not aware of who he was meeting.

After nearly a week of silence, McCarthy's 'weak' criticism of Trump's dinner meeting on Tuesday, November 22, at Mar-a-Lago, has only invited more vitriol. After the Republicans won the lower chamber control in the recent midterm elections, McCarthy is in line to become Speaker of the House.

According to the Daily Mail, McCarthy talked to the reporters after a meeting at the White House. He responded to the question of why he had not condemned Trump's dinner with Fuentes, he said "I don't think anybody should be spending any time with Nick Fuentes. He has no place in this Republican Party. I think President Trump came out four times and condemned him and didn't know who he was." When he was told that the former president had not condemned him or his ideology, he replied, "Well, I condemn his ideology. It has no place in our society."

Trump's meeting with the white supremacist was quickly condemned by Democrats. Quite a few Republicans also acknowledged that having dinner with an avowed white nationalist was a step too far, even for Trump — but McCarthy wasn't one of them.

The whole of the Internet had slammed the Republican leader's silence, and now Twitter users have flocked to criticize McCarthy's 'weak' condemnation of Trump's actions. A Twitter user reacted by saying "@GOPLeader didn’t condemn The Loser for doing meeting with Fuentes, Saying they shouldn’t isn’t condemnation of the fact that trump did so. Weak response from a weak man."

Another tweet against McCarthy read, "This is all we can expect (and worse) once he takes over as Speaker. People who write about whether he can rise to the occasion are just fluffing for clicks."

"Even McCarthy himself had to first call Trump, get his permission to speak & then find out what would be acceptable for him to say! Because, when it takes you 5 days to denounce Trump’s antisemetism & racism, you shouldn’t run for dog-catcher, let alone speaker of the House!" wrote another tweet.

In response to McCarthy insisting that Trump did not know who the white supremacist was, a user wrote on Twitter that "Is he condemning himself for having dinner with the man? If not, it doesn't really matter. He had dinner with him. Average, unknown, citizens just don't show up and have dinner with Donald."
