Kelsey Meta Boren: Oregon elementary school staff gets less than 1 year in prison for 11 felony child sex crimes
VENETA, OREGON: Kelsey Meta Boren, a former elementary school employee and self-described "drag mom," has been sentenced to less than a year in jail after being found guilty of several felony child abuse offenses. Boren, 31, had previously admitted to 11 counts of encouraging first-degree child sexual abuse. She was employed by the Fern Ridge School District in Oregon but was suspended from her job following the disclosure of her crimes last year.
Prior to her arrest, Boren had frequently shared photos of herself with an 11-year-old girl on her Instagram account, referring to herself as the child's "drag mom." Boren received her sentence of 330 days in jail at Lane County Circuit Court in March, with each charge carrying a 30-day penalty.

Boren had uploaded and traded child pornography online
In August 2022, authorities arrested Boren after executing a search warrant at her residence in Veneta. Law enforcement officials discovered evidence that she had uploaded and traded child pornography online on several occasions, as stated in court documents. While one count of using child in display of sexually explicit conduct was dismissed by the court, several other charges related to child sexual abuse were filed against her.
In October 2022, Boren participated in a drag queen event, despite having been arrested two months earlier. The event, which took place at Old Nick's Pub, a venue known for holding adult fetish nights and named after Satan, was met with strong opposition from protesters. Supporters and protesters faced off outside the pub, and according to police, some of the roughly 200 individuals involved were armed, including those carrying semi-automatic rifles.
Despite the opposition, the drag queen event proceeded, albeit without the participation of the child performer known as Vanellope MacPherson DuPont. A Facebook post by the pub to promote the event had said, "Vanellope is here to show you what an 11-year-old drag queen can do. With all the charm and sweetness of a bowl of sugary cereal, Vanellope is here to brighten up your morning with all her drag talent."
Statement by the 11-year-old's relatives
After the post, there was a variety of reactions, both negative and positive. Vanellope's family and friends released a statement stating that their relationship with Boren was purely "professional" and that they had only met "maybe four or five times", as per Daily Mail. The statement added, "Meta Boren was not a family friend, nor was she ever a mentor for V in the drag world. They, also, have not had any contact since before covid, and all ties have been severed as of the time of Meta Boren's arrest in August."
