Kaylane Timoteo Freitas: Second teen brutally attacked by shark at 'world’s scariest beach' within 48 hours
PIEDADE BEACH, BRAZIL: In a series of shark attacks, a second teen became victim to the predator at Piedade Beach in the Brazilian city of Jaboatao dos Guararapes. Both the teen victims were brutally attacked within a 48-hour time frame and required amputation, following the shark attack at the world’s scariest beach.
In terrifying footage, victim Kaylane Timoteo Freitas, 15, was seen being pulled from the sea after her left arm was ripped off by a shark on Monday, March 6, 2023. The teenager could be seen withering in pain while blood spewed from her severed arm. Although it is not known what kind of shark attacked Freitas, the beach is known as a common hunting ground for deadly bull sharks, tiger sharks, and lemon sharks.

'Swimming is not allowed!'
In the video, beachgoers could be seen comforting the teen who also sustained several injuries on her stomach and leg. Freitas was airlifted to the hospital and said to have her left arm completely amputated. She is believed to be in a stable and conscious condition in the hospital, reported the source. Paramedic Marcelo Alves said beachgoers have been repeatedly warned not to swim in the water. He added, "The team is already alert about these events that have been happening," reported The Sun. "Unfortunately, there is a law that says that swimming is not allowed, but people insist on going into the sea," he said.
The 15-year-old girl was attacked just 48 hours after another 14-year-old boy was attacked by the beast. The brutal shark attack caused a massive chunk of his leg to be ripped off by the predator, leaving his femur exposed.
The incident took place just 547 yards from where Freitas was attacked. The boy was rushed to a hospital in the city of Recife by air ambulance and had his right leg amputated. Psychologist Andrea Caribe who witnessed the ordeal from her building overlooking the beach said she was appalled to see people continue to remain in the water following the attack. "They [the lifeguards] are pulling people out," Caribe told the source.
Most dangerous shark attack spot in the world
Due to scores of the dangerous shark attacks, swimming has been banned at Piedade Beach since 2021. There are nearly 150 signs warning beachgoers of the high risk of such attacks along a 36km kilometer stretch of the Pernambuco State coast, including Piedade Beach. The Greater Recife area is also believed to be the most dangerous shark attack spot in the world.
This is because the region is home to several deadly species of sharks such as bull sharks, tiger sharks, and lemon sharks, which are known to be aggressive and are often found in shallow waters close to shore. Subsequently, the increase in human activity in the waters, including swimming, surfing, and fishing, has led to frequent encounters between humans and predators.
