Creativity in costumes for Halloween 2021 saw a new rise when a 'Karen' costume hit the markets. Apparently, dressing up like a 'nondescript suburban White woman, who has a problem with anything and everything' is a new way to cause a fright in Halloween 2021. While some poked fun at it, 'Karen' costume also faced severe backlash on Twitter.

In the dictionary, the term 'Karen' is described as an "obnoxious, angry, entitled and often racist middle-aged White woman" who is stereotyped as having a "blonde bob, asking to speak to managers and often an anti-vaxxer". Keeping the details in mind, the costume features a blonde, bob wig and a pair of sunglasses. It is manufactured by the US fancy dress company, Spirit.

'The scariest Halloween costume ever'

While some Twitter users poked fun at the said costume, some were 'not happy' over making jokes on a costume that apparently identifies with 'women who weaponize their whiteness to brutalize black people'. One person tweeted, "Of course there’s a ‘Karen’ Halloween costume for sale this year, which could be the scariest Halloween costume ever." Another wrote, "I don’t like this at all!! Why is there a Karen costume kmt when will people stop the foolishness" One tweet read, "Instead of saying trick or treat they ask to speak to your manager" Another user wrote, "I don't think the #karencostume is supposed to be funny, but rather quite fuckin' scary. Ask any #BIPOC"

One user said, "The way yt people have managed to turn this into a joke is honestly so unsurprising. A whole costume for a label that's supposed to identify yt women who weaponize their whiteness to brutalize black people." Another tweet read, "This is honestly what happens when you come up with cute pet names for these people instead of just callin em what they are…a racist ass cracka."
