'Kamala Harris was one of the most vocal critics of justice Brett Kavanaugh, of Senator Al Franken, when they faced similar allegations,' said Fox News reporter Kristen Fisher

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki chose to dodge questions about why Vice President Kamala Harris has stayed mum on the sexual harassment allegations brought on by multiple women against New York Governor Andrew Cuomo despite the fact that when she was a California senator, she had ripped Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh apart due to similar accusations when his nomination was being considered.

“Vice President Kamala Harris was one of the most vocal critics of justice Brett Kavanaugh, of Senator Al Franken, when they faced similar allegations. She said repeatedly, ‘I believe them, the women,’ but she hasn’t said anything about the three women who are accusing Governor Andrew Cuomo,” Fox News reporter Kristen Fisher asked Psaki during a press briefing on Tuesday, March 2. “And now this third accuser in Anna Ruch, she actually worked for the Biden-Harris campaign. So at what point is the first female vice president going to say something about this?”

In response, Psaki said, “Well, I know that’s how the vice president continues to feel and the benefit of doing a briefing every day is that I can certainly speak on behalf of the president and the vice president. And so let me reiterate that they both believe that every woman coming forward should be heard, should be treated with dignity, and treated with respect. As you all know, the New York Attorney General will oversee an independent investigation with subpoena power and the governor’s office said he will fully cooperate and we certainly support that moving forward.”

When Psaki was pressed again on whether President Joe Biden or Harris could be expected to talk on his issue in the future, Psaki said that she represents them and “that’s the representation of their points.”

Many Twitter users did not buy this explanation given by Psaki and criticized the VP for not being vocal about Cuomo. "Allegations serve a political purpose — all that matters is whose," one of the users wrote while another said, "Wasn’t she on the judiciary committee?" A third commented, "But was very vocal on Brett Kavanaugh." One more remarked, "She knows the game very well it seems." The next said, "It’s called balancing!" Another quipped, "I was kinda wondering myself about all the #metoomovement people. Where are they?????"

There were those who were not surprised by the news as Cuomo is a Democrat and Kavanaugh was nominated by Trump. "Shocking to....... not one damn soul," one of them said while the next commented, "She was a Senator then and the VP now. Different roles and different engagement on the issues." Another said, "You mean like trump and pence were silent on Kavanaugh allegations."

Cuomo defended Harris against Trump

Cuomo has defended Harris against attacks from then-President Trump during the 2020 election campaign. He blasted Trump for his comments when he called Harris a “monster” following the vice presidential debate. He suggested that Trump should apologize to Harris for the comment, and urged then-Vice President Mike Pence to call on Trump to do so.

“He calls the first African-American, Asian female to run for vice-president a monster. Disgusting,”  Cuomo said during a coronavirus task force briefing. “The vice-president has always tried to set himself up as a gentleman, a professional and above pettiness and ugliness. You’d think the vice-president would say, ‘I want to set a different tone…that’s not my style.'”

Last month Cuomo was in Washington, DC for his first meeting with Biden and Harris about Covid relief. At the time, the president’s proposed aid package includes about $70 billion for New York. Cuomo also faces increased scrutiny from the media for the treatment of nursing home patients with Covid. “I think the federal government has a major role to play here,” Biden said. “But these are the folks that are on the ground dealing with it every single solitary day. And they see the pain and they see the successes when they occur.”
