'Got to be a joke': Internet AGHAST as Biden may send Kamala Harris to Europe for 'solidarity'

Reports emerged that the White House is considering sending Vice President Kamala Harris to Romania and Poland, but not everyone is happy with the idea

It's probably not an understatement to say that US Vice President Kamala Harris is deeply unpopular. As of March 1, 2022, her approval rating stands at 39.1 per cent, while President Joe Biden isn't faring any better. Nonetheless, it appears the White House thinks that VP Harris could be the key to reassuring America's allies in Europe amidst the Ukraine invasion. On March 3, it emerged that the administration is actively weighing sending Harris to Poland and Romania "in the coming days".

So far, the President has been at the forefront of the American response to Russia's aggression. Biden has repeatedly announced sanctions targeting Putin and his cronies, and at his State of the Union address, announced that the US was going after Russian oligarch's "ill-begotten gains" such as yachts and planes. The escalating conflict in Europe has also put the spotlight firmly on Biden's resolve and could become his defining moment as it appears more and more likely the US will need to deploy boots on the ground.

In the meantime, the Vice President has noticeably taken a backseat. While she did visit Munich, Germany, recently to talk with NATO allies, Harris has mostly been dealing with domestic priorities like Black History Month. With Russia's brutal invasion getting worse though, it appears that the White House has had a change of heart and decided that Harris needs to play a greater role.

Will Harris visit Romania, Poland?

The Hill reported that discussions were ongoing on whether or not to send Harris to eastern Europe "to show solidarity with Ukraine." For now, it appears almost certain the President himself won't visit, purely for logistical reasons. "A presidential visit is a heavier logistical lift. The vice president has a smaller footprint and is historically more nimble," one source said. A date for the visit has not yet been confirmed, with the plan still in the early stages.

If Harris was to go, she would reportedly visit American troops stationed in Romania, and possibly even the Ukraine border, where refugees have been streaming in as Russian troops march further into Ukraine. Harris is expected to visit both Warsaw (Poland) and Bucharest (Romania), but it is unclear as of now if she would visit the heads of state of both nations. Nonetheless, the visit is expected to play a significant role in reassuring US allies, as fears are growing Putin's invasion could spread further than just Ukraine.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken left on March 3 for a nearly week-long trip to several nations including Belgium, Poland, Moldova, and the Baltic states. The US has also sent an additional 3,000 troops to Poland and Romania since the war began. But a visit from the VP would be a far more powerful statement if Biden himself doesn't come.

'What the f**k about our southern border?'

However, on social media, not everyone was too happy with the idea. "This has got to be a joke," one person responded to the news. Another tweeted, "I cannot believe we are sending Kamala "Word Salad" Harris to Poland right now." A third angrily said, "Biden is sending Harris to see our troops and then a visit to the Poland/Ukrainian border. WHAT THE F**K ABOUT OUR SOUTHERN BORDER? SHE HASN'T BEEN THERE YET! JUST A PHOTO OP 40 MILES AWAY FROM IT! The Biden Administration is a disgrace, a farce and a joke!"

"What have #Poland and #Hungary done to deserve a Kamala Harris visit?" one user mocked. Another said, "No, don’t send VP Harris to Poland. Her actions are humiliating for the USA. Who know what lies she will say or start laughing. Will she say Putins not at fault it because Ukraine is white? War is because of racism in US." A third slammed, "White House weighs sending VP Harris to Poland, Romania during Ukraine war. Every time we do something like this we look weak."
