Kamala Harris’ car crashes in Foggy Bottom tunnel, Secret Service calls it a ‘mechanical failure’
FOGGY BOTTOM, WASHINGTON, DC: Kamala Harris' motorcade collided with a curb on Monday, October 3 in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood, disabling one of the vehicle's wheels as a result. There were no wounds and a medical examination revealed Harris was in good condition. The Secret Service initially referred to vice president Harris' minor automobile mishap as a "mechanical failure."
The Washington Post was the first to report that her motorcade struck a curb with enough force to break one of the vehicle's wheels. Nobody was hurt and it appears that Harris was moved to another car and continued on her tour. At that time, the vice president was on her way to the White House. Medical personnel had checked her out once she got to the White House and they had determined Harris was alright. Senior Secret Service personnel may have initially been informed of the situation as a "mechanical failure" but they later received a complete explanation in person. In the Foggy Bottom district of Washington, DC, the driver of her vehicle overcorrected at a tunnel. It was common procedure to initially characterize the incident as a "mechanical breakdown," according to the Washington Post. The publication also claims that the new Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle "confided to allies that she was disturbed by the inaccuracy of the alert related to the Harris accident."

Based on the testimony of an unidentified witness, the report further claimed that Cheatle was “relieved to get the fuller account later that day.”
Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told Daily Mail, “During a protective movement Monday, a vehicle in a motorcade had a minor overcorrection and struck a curb.” “The protectee was transferred to a secondary vehicle and the motorcade continued to its destination. There were no injuries to anyone,” he added. According to the spokesman, the odd description of a "mechanical failure" only appeared in the "initial radio traffic" of the incident and Secret Service leaders were later briefed on the discussion. “Initial radio traffic indicated this was a mechanical failure, and that was communicated to agency leadership by personnel supporting the motorcade movement,” Guglielmi claimed. “After the protective movement was completed, leadership was verbally updated with additional pertinent facts that the vehicle struck a curb.”
Earlier, a reporter from Yeshiva World News shared a claimed TikTok video of the minor collision on Twitter, calling it a "strange incident." Although it's unclear whether the sirens are connected, it depicts a number of black SUVs parked at the entrance of a tunnel. The individual who recorded the video feels positive that they saw the vice president outside of the automobile that had hit the curb, even though the video was taken too far away from to make out any specific details.
