Loews Hotels announced on Saturday that they would no longer be hosting a planned fundraiser at their Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando for Senator Josh Hawley. This is the second blow for the Republican politician within a matter of days after Simon and Schuster announced that they would not publish Hawley's 'The Tyranny of Big Tech' that was scheduled to release in June 2021. He was the first senator to announce that he planned to object and overturn the congressional count of the presidential electoral votes, claiming that the election results were a fraud, according to a Vox report. Hawley was also photographed on his way to the Senate chambers raising a fist in support of pro-Trump demonstrators, many of whom later made their way to the US Capitol and caused riots. The photo cemented the narrative that he bore personal accountability for the violence on January 6.

“After witnessing the disturbing, deadly insurrection that took place on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., Simon & Schuster has decided to cancel publication of Senator Josh Hawley’s forthcoming book,” the publisher said in a statement. “We did not come to this decision lightly. As a publisher it will always be our mission to amplify a variety of voices and viewpoints: at the same time we take seriously our larger public responsibility as citizens, and cannot support Senator Hawley after his role in what became a dangerous threat to our democracy and freedom," the statement further read.

Hawley's support for President Trump has also led to him losing face amongst his longtime supporters and mentors including John. C.Danforth, a former Republican senator from Missouri. He once viewed Hawley as a "once-in-a-generation" talent but after the Capitol riots, Danforth said that campaigning for Hawley as his replacement was "the worst mistake I ever made in my life". Hawley continued to face consequences for his endorsement which also included calls for him to resign from his position from the editorial boards of two most prominent newspapers in Missouri as well as from students at a law school where he once taught.

Loews Hotels followed suit with their official Twitter handle announcing, "We are horrified and opposed to the events at the Capitol and all who supported and incited the actions." The tweet further read, "In light of those events and for the safety of our guests and team members, we have informed the host of the Feb. fundraiser that it will no longer be held at Loews Hotels."

People were quick to laud the hospitality company for their decision. "Thank you @Loews_Hotels for standing with American democracy over those who seek to destroy it." Another user wrote, "Thank you for doing the right thing. Oh, @HawleyMO is a little weasel-traitor." Another wrote, "They don't work with traitors." Another user wrote, "Thank you for doing this. It's important that the GOP Congressmen and Senators who kept repeating Trump's lies about the election are held accountable for their part in inciting seditious violence that happened at the Capitol on Jan. 6."
