Did Josh Hawley get 'schooled' by Bret Baier? Internet asks if Fox News anchor is 'auditioning for CNN'
Republican Senator Josh Hawley may have been given a bit of a lesson in law from Fox News's Bret Baier after the latter called out Senator Hawley's plans to object to the result of the 2020 presidential elections, which saw former Vice President Joe Biden winning with a comfortable margin. Hawley plans to do so when Congress will take it on Wednesday, January 6. Baier's response to Hawley was lauded by some, while others criticized his grilling of Hawley.
Hawley mentioned in Baier's program that he wanted to "raise concerns" from the people in his state over the election's integrity. This comes after incumbent President Donald Trump has been railing his allies and his supporters that the results should not be trusted. Hawley said he is objecting on Wednesday as his chance to "stand up and speak for them"
Fellow Fox News broadcaster, Martha MacCallum then asked Hawley if he expects to change the actual outcome of the election. Hawley did not directly respond to the question, instead of saying he was raising concerns about "allegations of irregularity." Hawley insisted that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court "improperly" rejected one of the cases from Trump's team contesting the results. However, Baier pointed out that the Supreme Court has not taken up cases and brought up how courts have in fact looked at the evidence before ruling.
Baier then asked Hawley if "as of January 20th, that President Trump will be president," to which Hawley responded that it depends "on what happens on Wednesday." Baier immediately answered that it does not and added, "The states, by the Constitution, say they certify the election, they did certify it. By the Constitution, Congress doesn’t have the right to overturn the certification. At least as most experts read it." Hawley then tried pointing to a statute to justify his action, but Baier responded that it "doesn't by constitutional ways open a door to Congress to overturn that, does it?"
Hawley then said, "It says that we have a vote of certification and that we have the opportunity to debate the results, to certify the results, we count them and then certify. My point is, this is my only opportunity during the process to raise an objection and to be heard." When Baier asked Hawley about his responsibility to tell his constituents that Trump would not be president on January 21st, Hawley said he is trying "to do something more than just that” and that it’s about election integrity.
Many took to social media to applaud Baier for his quick responses to Hawley, with one user tweeting, "That look when Yale Law didn’t stop you from getting schooled by Bret Baier on friggin Fox News lmaooo." Another referenced Hawley's Yale Law School education and tweeted, "When you graduate from Yale Law School, but Fox News has to explain the law to you."

BRET BAIER: What are you trying to do? Do you think Trump will be president after January 20?
JOSH HAWLEY: Depends what happens on Wednesday.

However, those who supported Hawley's decision took to social media to criticize Baier and to ask him if he was planning a career move. One user tweeted, "Bret Baier single-handedly was the cherry on top why I stopped watching Fox News." Another tweeted, "Is Bret Baier auditioning for a spot at CNN or MSDNC? I mean, eventually, those ratings at Fox will reach critical mass. Layoffs coming." A user opined, "Shame on you Bret Baier. I just watched your interview with senator Hawley. What a disgrace. Your bias and clear disdain was ridiculous. Are you trying out for a job at CNN? You are exactly why millions of viewers have turned Fox off! I am embarrassed you came from Rockford IL."
