HOUSTON, TEXAS: A Houston man who tossed two beer cans at Senator Ted Cruz during the World Series victory celebration in downtown Houston on Monday, November 7, has been detained and charged. Officers claim that when Joseph Halm Arcidiacono, a 33-year-old parade spectator, threw the two unopened 12-ounce beer cans, one of them impacted Senator Cruz in the "chest/neck region" while the senator was on a float in the 2400 block of Smith Street.

Police said that “the Senator did not require medical attention” and added that “nearby HPD officers arrested the male without further incident," reported the Independent. The offender, who was apprehended, has been accused of severe assaults. According to court records, his bail was set at $40,000. Arcidiacono purposefully struck Cruz and "used and exhibited a deadly weapon, namely an unopened metal beverage can," as per reports from Click2houston.

“HPD made one arrest during today’s victory parade,” Houston Police tweeted on Monday afternoon. “A male, 33, threw a beer can at US Senator Ted Cruz as the Senator was on a float in the 2400 block of Smith St. The beer can struck the Senator in the chest/neck area.”

A witness, according to the prosecution, said that he was properly positioned 15 feet behind Cruz when he saw Arcidiacono run up to a barrier wall during the procession and toss the two cans at Cruz. A prosecutor claimed that after Arcidiacono tossed the cans, a witness was able to grasp him as he ran and drag him over to the police. While he was being, Arcidiacono told officers, "I know, I'm an idiot, I'm sorry". Arcidiacono is anticipated to show up in court on Wednesday, November 9.

Fans were celebrating the Astros’ World Series win over the Philadelphia Phillies while the winning team paraded down the city streets on Monday. Cruz joined the procession in an uncovered military-style truck on the 2400 block of Smith Street in Houston, waving to fans of the team. It was at that time, Arcidiacono hurled a beer can at the GOP lawmaker. Meanwhile, Cruz thanked the Houston and Capitol law enforcement for their response and mocked the individual who hurled the beer can at him.
