BOULDER, COLORADO: Police investigating a horrifying sexual attack of a young girl, which could be linked to the unsolved murder of six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey, found evidence of the perpetrator's alleged secret hideaway which the perp could have been using to spy on the 12-year-old survivor.
Child beauty queen Ramsey was discovered beaten and strangled to death in the basement of her parents' home on December 26, 1996. Just nine months later, a 12-year-old girl who attended the same dance school as Ramsey, was sexually assaulted by a perpetrator clad in all black for several horrifying minutes on September 14, 1997.
The tragic incident was interrupted by the girl's mother who burst into the room wielding a can of mace after she overheard whispers coming from her daughter's room. The perpetrator swiftly pushed the woman and allegedly fled on foot via a second-floor window. Both the suspects in the alarming case were never arrested and the lead investigators in both cases were further accused of a botched investigation. The survivor's father long believed his daughter's assailant had been stalking the family for quite some time and targeting his daughter, waiting for the right time to strike.
However, a shocking revelation showed investigators had been alerted of a potential lair where the survivor's perpetrator may have been hiding, stalking the family. The family's direct neighbor told police two months after the attack that they found evidence of someone living in their scarcely-used apartment located above their garage. The occupant had left behind a number of items including empty beer cans, which were collected by Boulder PD investigators, according to the The Sun.
The survivor's father had stressed to the police that whoever was living in the apartment could likely be his daughter's perpetrator. It was unclear if the items collected from the house were used for DNA testing. The young girl's father even alleged to the police that he believed the culprit responsible for sexually assaulting his daughter was likely the suspect involved in the murder of Ramsey, but he said that the Boulder police were "dismissive" and "disinterested" in investigating any potential parallels between the two cases and were hostile toward him for making any suggestion. Even after 26 years, the girl's dad believes if the BPD had taken his daughter's case seriously they could have solved Ramsey's murder too.
