MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: Netflix series 'Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story' has reopened the wounds of the families of the serial killer's victims. The critically acclaimed mini-series that re-enacts the horrific actions of the killer and engulfs in a dramatic courtroom drama has pushed people over the edge as they have started asking questions about the credibility of the Milwaukee Police Department and are now demanding a proper memorial site for Dahmer's victims.

People are coming together and demanding a physical memorial site to honor the victims of the Milwaukee Cannibal, especially after the hit Netflix series where Evan Peters the infamous serial killer, revisited the traumas of the victims. On one hand, Mayor Cavalier Johnson is on board with the idea. Mayor Johnson's communication director, Jeff Fleming, tells TMZ that the mayor wants to do something to honor the victims' families, but Milwaukee wants to avoid creating a "ghoulish destination for troubled fans" looking for any reason to celebrate Dahmer. The serial killer used to live in the Oxford Apartments which was the site for most of his murders. It is now being considered as one possible location for the memorial.

In a statement shared with TMJ4 News on Tuesday, September 27, Mayor Johnson said, "It is entirely appropriate to remember the victims of this horrific episode in Milwaukee’s history. They deserve our respect. I am cautious, however, about a physical memorial. That would have an unfortunate potential to attract people who have a morbid fascination with the killer. That is something I would prefer to avoid." The building, which comprised 49 units, was demolished in 1992, shortly after Dahmer's arrest in1992 and now sits vacant near 25th and State.

Citizens demand memorial for Jeffrey Dahmer's victims

One user expressed his concern regarding the lack of memorial for the victims writing, "The fact that the city of Milwaukee still hasn't turned the former Dahmer apartment complex into a memorial or a park is the final slap in the face of the victims. An empty lot is all that remains. They neglected them while they were being killed so why stop now?" Another user wrote, "Just finished watching the Jeffrey Dahmer series on Netflix. Crazy that the city of Milwaukee hasn't turned the Oxford Apartment plot into a memorial site to honor the victims. Neglecting the land like they neglected the victims who were murdered..."

One angry user claims that the city has not built a memorial because of their sexual preferences saying, "The city of Milwaukee has not made a memorial for Dahmer victims and it’s been 30 years ! They have no intentions of doing so because most of the victims were lgbtq black men smh." Another user tweeted, "Shame on #Milwaukee for never building a memorial to the victims of #dahmer It's about time that land is turned into something #victimmemorial"
