"Best day ever," exclaimed Jeff Bezos after his much-awaited 11 minutes trip to space in Blue Origin's first flight to space on Tuesday, July 20. Internet became a meme fest after Bezos' 'space adventure', as his cowboy hat caught everyone's attention.

It is important to note here that Jeff Bezos was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Later, he moved to Houston, Texas, with his family. Both cities boast of cowboy heritage, clearly reflecting in Bezos' sartorial choices for his space trip. The director of Astronaut and Orbital Sales at Blue Origin, Ariane Cornell provided the commentary as Bezos and his three crewmates prepared to fly from a desert site in West Texas. Pointing at Bezos' cowboy hat in her commentary, Cornell said “He’s a true Texan at heart -- we call it ‘The Ranch’ down here. We like to incorporate that into a lot of what we do in the spirit that we have down here at our launch site."

People wasted no time in ridiculing the billionaire on Twitter for wearing a cowboy hat to space. One user tweeted, "My sister: "Jeff Bezos wearing a cowboy hat and his space uniform makes me think he once tried to give himself the 'Space Cowboy' nickname and his friends told him he couldn't give himself a nickname and now he's really showing them"." Another user tweeted, "'I also want to thank every Amazon employee and every Amazon customer because you guys paid for all of this.' - Jeff Bezos on his new cowboy hat." The much-discussed cowboy hat that Bezos wore on his trip to space was bought years ago from the Kemo Sabe store in downtown Aspen. Speaking of the 'now-famous' hat, Kemo Sabe president Wendy Kunkle said on Tuesday that it is at least a decade-old but is Bezos’ favorite in his collection. The hat was made in Basalt at their hat barn, which has since moved to Texas. Kunkle said, "That’s all-American right there, walking out of a spaceship with a cowboy hat on. Are you kidding me?" Kunkle added that the hat is a Kemo Sabe brand of housemade hat called 'Grit'. Bezos ordered a number of hats from Kemo Sabe for the crew and friends as part of the longtime project. Bezos is a longtime customer and friend of Kemo Sabe founder Tom Yoder, who opened the store in 1990 in Snowmass Village before moving to Aspen three years later.

Kunkle noted that she received a number of text messages Tuesday about the hat but denied any possibility of a Blue Origin line showing up on the Kemo Sabe shelves. "No, we would never would do that. That’s his thing, not our thing… We’re just proud to be a part of it. We didn’t do anything, but luckily we have a good relationship with him. That’s all," she said.
