A 20-year-old who was found on the grounds of Queen Elizabeth II’s Windsor Castle on Christmas Day last year has now been charged with treason offenses on Tuesday, August 2, as per the Metropolitan Police. The man Jaswant Singh Chail reportedly wanted to take revenge on the Queen for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. 

Chail from Southampton, who identified himself as "Indian Sikh", was also charged with threats to kill and possession of an offensive weapon, which was a crossbow. Currently, he is in police custody and is set to appear in the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on August 17. According to The National News, The Metropolitan Police said, "Following an investigation by the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command, a man has been charged with offenses in relation to an incident within the grounds of Windsor Castle on Christmas Day last year." He was charged with offenses under Section 2 of the 1842 Treason Act.

Who is Jaswant Singh Chail?

Chail, 20, hailing from Southampton in southern England, was sectioned under the Mental Health Act after he threatened to kill the Queen on Christmas last year. Post the incident, his father, Jasbir Singh Chail told Daily Mail, "Something’s gone horribly wrong with our son and we are trying to figure out what. We’ve not had a chance to speak to him but are trying to get him the help he needs. From our perspective, we are going through a difficult time. We are trying to resolve this issue and it’s not easy."

Jaswant Chail, who reportedly grew up in a $600,000 semi-detached house located on a private estate, is believed to have sent a Snapchat video of him posing with a crossbow to his friends on Snapchat 24 minutes before he was apprehended by the police on Christmas morning. In the video, he says, "I’m sorry. I’m sorry for what I’ve done and what I will do. I will attempt to assassinate Elizabeth, Queen of the Royal Family. This is revenge for those who have died in the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. It is also revenge for those who have been killed, humiliated and discriminated on because of their race. I’m an Indian Sikh, a Sith. My name was Jaswant Singh Chail, my name is Darth Jones.”
