OMAHA, NEBRASKA: An Iowa Man, Brendon Birt, saved four siblings from a house fire in Omaha. Birt took a wrong turn while driving in Red Oak on Sunday, October 23. The young man saw a fire inside a home, which is when he acted quickly to save them.
“I just felt like somebody was in there because it was so late at night, you know? I just knew I had to act quickly, " he said to KETV. While he was in front of the house, he had a gut feeling that people were inside. So he started banging on the windows and yelling, "Fire."

Birt continued, "Every second that was going by was just getting worse." This is when the three siblings, eight, 14 and 17, ran through the front door as the flames started spreading inside. Later, their eldest sibling, 22-year-old Bryce Harrison ran through the front door as the fire got to the porch. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, reported New York Post. Their mother, Tender Lehman, was in Montana due to a family emergency. Birt's banging roused the siblings who were sleeping in their house as the smoke alarms failed to go off.
"Everything was just black in the living room. There's nothing left of it," said Christopher, the eight-year-old. "They came out the door. Like, I just felt like I just wanted to break down and cry. Like, I don't even know these people here," Birt said. Harrison stated, "Walked up into an oven of heat and flames on the front, the front wall." Though they had seven dogs, only two survived. "They're safe, and they're safe because of him. I mean, lives were saved here. Souls," said Lehman.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe has been started for the family as they lost their home in the fire. The page stated, "Last night on Oct. 23rd very early in the morning, my family suffered a terrible blow. My daughters house burned down, it’s a total loss. She is married with 4 kids living with her, thanks to their quick actions and our hero Brendon Birt, everybody got out with seconds to spare."
The note added, "Her kids are 22, 17, 14 and 8. She lost some of her precious dogs and all of the families belongings. My son in law is a Union Boilermaker and my daughter is in college to become a nurse. Anybody who knows them, knows their hearts! They would and have helped everybody who has ever needed it. They are homeless and have nothing left. Please consider donating, but at the very least please share!! They need all the help they can get and prayers, so many prayers. Thank you so much!"
