MOSCOW, IDAHO: Bryan Kohberger, the suspect in the deaths of four University of Idaho students, was arrested on December 30 for the brutal murders of Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, on November 13, 2022, in their off-campus rental property on King Road in Moscow.

Four counts of murder and one count of felony burglary have been brought against Ph.D. student Kohberger, 28. A preliminary hearing was scheduled on June 26 after he appeared in court in Idaho on January 12.

Where is Bryan Kohbereger?

Bryan Kohberger is presently imprisoned at the Latah County Correctional Facility. He won't be in court again until a preliminary hearing in June. After being arrested in Pennsylvania, Kohberger was given a public defender who said he continues to assert his innocence, per news from Inside Edition Digital.

Additionally, in a court filing, Bryan Kohberger informed the prosecution that he has not yet gathered the proof he intends to use at trial. The identities of any "additional witnesses who will be called at trial on behalf of the Defendant," according to Anne C. Taylor, Kohberger's public defender, will be made public "when available," she stated in the filing.

Records indicate that Taylor is one of just 13 public defenders in the state qualified to represent a suspect in a case involving the possibility of the death penalty. Moreover, the southern region of the state, primarily in and around Boise, is home to all 12 of the public defenders. Taylor is the only public defender eligible to represent Kohberger in the middle or northern half of the state as a result.

When is Bryan Kohbereger's trial?

The judge set the preliminary hearing for June 26 at 9 am with the expectation that it will stretch for five days despite Kohberger's attorney's request to postpone it until late June. Kohberger informed the judge during the hearing that he had given up his right to a prompt preliminary hearing. He will continue to be held until his initial hearing at the end of June, per news from Fox 13.

Kohberger's attorney, Anne Taylor, told Magistrate Judge Megan Marshall, "He's willing to waive timeliness to allow us time to obtain discovery in the case and be prepared."
