MOSCOW, IDAHO: A criminologist has suggested that Bryan Kohberger may have left the knife sheath at the crime scene in a "remarkably clever move". The weapon used to stab four University of Idaho students to death is believed to be a fixed-blade Ka-Bar-style knife, which has still not been found. However, DNA found on a knife sheath recovered from the crime scene linked Kohberger, 28, to the murders.
David Wilson, a professor at Birmingham City University in the UK, Kohberger may have left the sheath behind as part of an elaborate plan to make sure he was not convicted. However, Wilson did not elaborate on why he believed this may be the case. "Would a highly-skilled, intelligent student who is teaching criminology, a Ph.D. student, have made such a basic error?" Wilson told ITV's This Morning.

Wilson was speaking in response to Phillip Schofield saying leaving the knife sheath was a "remarkably clumsy move" on Kohberger's part. "One of the things that's really struck me about the person that's been arrested and accused of this is he is intelligent and high-functioning," Wilson said.
Wilson said DNA can be transferred from person to person. He also said he believes this may be brought up at the trial by the defense. "I could have your DNA," Wilson told This Morning's Holly Willoughby. "Your DNA is on me. I could go wherever I wanted to go in the next hour and your DNA would be where I go to." He added, "So the defense is clearly going to present issues that will suggest that Kohberger is innocent."
Previously, various speculations on why Kohberger may have abandoned the knife sheath did rounds on social media. However, no one could offer a solid or concrete answer on whether it was accidental, or a deliberate act.
Kohberger was arrested in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, on December 30. The 28-year-old has been accused of fatally stabbing Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20, in their off-campus three-story rented home on November 13, 2022.
