She described it as every woman's worst nightmare, according to a report filed by Fox 5 Atlanta saying the assailant's voice still haunted her sleep. Morgan recounted being beaten with a gun, choked twice, and restrained with zip ties. The assailant also assaulted her and covered her head with a pillowcase.
Before leaving, he mentioned her ex-husband, saying, "You messed up. You'll be okay, but we can't say the same for your ex-husband. You're really going to miss him."
Shortly after the attack, Morgan Metzer's ex-husband arrived and pretended to be the hero. Security cameras reportedly captured Rodney first checking the front door and then the back deck before entering. He pretended to rescue Morgan and called 911.
Reflecting on the incident, Morgan said, "He was shocked by my appearance, but not in a way that showed concern for me. It was more like, 'Look what I've done to her.'"
Upon investigation, authorities found that Rodney had been secretly monitoring Morgan by copying her text messages and taking unauthorized photos of her. He fabricated a story to gain entry into her house.
Rodney had claimed he came to rescue Morgan after hearing someone yell her name outside his window. However, investigators doubted his story and arrested him for lying to the authorities.
Later, they found a bag of zip ties in his apartment similar to the ones used on Morgan. His internet search history also indicated his dangerous intentions.
With overwhelming evidence, Rodney pleaded guilty to 14 charges and accepted a 70-year sentence, including 25 years in prison.
