'How I Met Your Father' Episode 10 Finale: Fans didn't see Cobie Smulders' Robin cameo coming

It was one emotional finale of 'How I Met Your Father' as the Hulu dramedy ended its 10-episode Season 1. The treat for fans wasn't done with just the Captain and Becky references as 'HIMYM' alum Cobie Smulders made a special appearance. The actress originally played Robin in the hit CBS sitcom and was one of the characters reprising her role in the spinoff.

The finale sees Sophie (Hilary Duff) and Jesse (Chris Lowell) effectively move away after the latter is disappointed that Sophie wasn't looking for something long-term. Meanwhile, a woeful Sophie bumps into Carl the bartender, and Smulders' Robin at the bar downstairs. The latter gives her a quick life and relationship tip that sees Sophie go back to work on her relationship with Jesse, only to see him kiss his ex-girlfriend Meredith. Needless to say, Smulders' cameo was well-received by the audience.

"The only good thing of how I met your father was getting to see robin again in the finale I needed more," one of the fans tweeted. This was seconded by another who wrote, "I’ve been watching How I met your Father lately & I gasped seeing Robin in it." The pleasant surprise had Twitterati floored. "robin scherbatsky in how i met your father... guys this is how i'd get my swarkles mention," one of the fans remarked. "Robin Scherbatsky was on HOW I MET YOUR FATHER and it took me back #HIMYF" a tweet read.

"Ngl How I Met Your Father actually got really good towards the end I can’t believe Robin was in it," a comment said. "how i met your father better not mention anything about robin & ted... i’m still not over how the creators/writers ruined a totally good show with a ridiculous last season where perfect soulmates aka swarkles broke up for robin to end up with ted..." a fan remarked. "Every time I watch how I met your mother with Edgar he’s like: Robin And when we watch how I met your father I’m like: Hilary Duff," one of the tweets opined.

'HIMYM's Fandom describes Robin, one of the main characters of the show as a " Scotch-drinking, cigar-smoking, gun-toting Canadian pop-star-turned-journalist-turned-morning-show-host." The final season of the show saw her succeed and rise for World Wide News as their foreign correspondent but decided to take a news anchor position and settle down in New York. Only time will tell if we'll see more of Robin in 'HIMYF' Season 2.
