Mark Hurd, who was the co-chief of Oracle and former head of HP died of cancer on October 18, 2019. He was 62 when he died. At the time, the company confirmed his death. “Oracle has lost a brilliant and beloved leader who personally touched the lives of so many of us during his decade at Oracle,” Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison had said as per CNBC. “All of us will miss Mark’s keen mind and rare ability to analyze, simplify, and solve problems quickly. Some of us will miss his friendship and mentorship. I will miss his kindness and sense of humor.”

In September of that year, Hurd announced a leave of absence from the company due to unspecified health reasons. It was later revealed that he was battling cancer. “Though we all worked hard together to close the first quarter, I’ve decided that I need to spend time focused on my health," Hurd said in an announcement at the time. “I love Oracle and wish you all success during my absence.” Before his death, Hurd had visibly lost weight, his voice had become shaky and he had started wearing a toupee, many Oracle partners had noticed, according to CRN.
